Tent Village

Postby DavidGordonsFoot on Fri Aug 27, 2021 10:11 pm

This school and athletics program never fail to stick it to Flynn Fund donors. Best green space to free up on Lower in decades and they've reserved it to host visitors' tailgates.

I hope this field sits empty all season.

How much does it cost to park your car on football gamedays in that giant new airplane hangar they built where Commander Shea Field used to be?

BC could fuck up anything and make it low rent by trying to turn a buck. It looks awful. You have to buy your food from BC too?

You can bring chips and dips and sides. Their food is burgers dogs and sausages. Sounds lame and terrible.

$1,500 to $2,500 per game! This is what happens when you hire outsiders to run your athletic department. This field is an ideal location and set up for a huge pregame tailgate. Set up a stage at one end with live music, line one side with food and beer trucks and let people walk on. Create a fun and lively atmosphere and people will buy tickets to the game and not worry about parking. They will use Lyft, Uber and shuttle buses to get to the stadium.

Unfortunately, BCPD is against this idea as is Dining Services. This is how fucked up BC is, they literally can’t get out of their own way!

1. This is poor/lazy messageboarding. Mods please combine these threads: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17074&p=483655&hilit=experience#p483655
B. The beer & wine rule (ie no Tito's) and 2 coolers only may have been imposed on BC by the City. What if you bring water bottles full of Tito's?
iii. I had been told that BC wanted to have grills selling dogs, burgers... and beer. Again, the City may have said no.
IV. This will have no negative impact on the Flynn Fund donors who have premium tailgate spots. If you have a tailgate spot on lower, why would you want to move everything to the lawn?
e. For those of you that have not been on campus in over a year (probably all of you), the lawn is HUGE.

It’s not the City placing restrictions. BCPD does not want to recreate the old Shea Field. BC dining services is 100% opposed to food trucks.

The best thing for BC football is to move the games to Gillette. Hafley will build this program into a big attraction. These morons at BC will always screw up game day, hurting our recruiting efforts.

I do not know if the rules were from WL, or the City, maybe you do, my guess it was a combination which I do know has always been the case. Mayor Walsh was great for BC, I doubt the current idiot is as well. Also, the current Newton mayor hates BC with a passion and I am sure she has been in Janney's ear.
You really think BC dining has a say in this?

I just don’t see the outrage. You have a field no one is using to tailgate. The school doesn’t want people driving cars all over said field. The school is following the model of a bunch of Southern schools who offer “tailgating” in reserved car-less areas. The only major difference is that BC is trying to make it some sort of premium experience where folks have to pay a couple of grand per game. If you don’t like it, don’t pay for it. But, I get it… based on Mass elected officials, there is outrage whenever socialist policies aren’t being implemented.

That said, I leave open the possibility that BC could build out this area horribly on game day with cheap-ass tents that are constantly blowing over. But, based on the price point, I’m hopeful that it will be done impressively… which will just piss-off the folks bitching even more.

i can guarantee you those southern school experiences don't limit the quantity or type of booze you can bring in or the food, grills, etc. that you want to use and consume to avoid the boiled burgers the school is going to offer you for $10 a piece

Guarantee those southern schools also have fans that make it into the stadium by halftime.

game day enhancement email i just received said that new food truck offerings will be available on campenella way, so once again corners, you have no idea what you are talking about.

from reading that email, it seems like they are really trying to make the experience not suck for those that are willing to pay extra for it. it will still suck for visiting fans or people that just want to go to a game or two during the year, but at least it sounds like they are making some strides.

i still will not be in attendance for any of the 2021 games. no, it is not because of vaccination restrictions

I'm mildly amused by this concept of Coach Haf-time getting repeatedly pushed around by the BC Dining Mafia.

Did they detect weakness in our coach?

Penn State has a similar setup (although they also have TVs set up in each tent) and it is awesome. Just show up with 20 of your best friends, drink and eat like crazy, and someone else deals with setup, breakdown and cleanup. Don't get me wrong, I love hosting a tailgate, but if you are just flying in for the game and don't have the time, vehicle, equipment or inclination to prepare for and host a traditional tailgate this is a good option.

It is expensive, but works for a certain segment of the fanbase. Frankly I think this will catch on and BC will be able to charge more for this eventually.
