2nd to last practice before the spring game... full pads
Redshirt junior tight end Joey Luchetti missed all of last season due to injury, but the Wayland, Mass., native looks to be in line to be a major contributor at tight end for the Eagles in 2021. Luchetti has been one of the most physical blockers at the position all spring … spring practice continues to allow for the coaches to roll out a ton of different players with the first-team units, but on defense Tuesday true freshman defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku and true freshman safety Shawn Asbury II got a look with the first-team unit. Both freshmen are part of a promising mid-year group of 12 early enrollees … linebacker Bryce Steele is another true freshman who has opened some eyes with his play so far in Chestnut Hill … senior Zion Johnson returned for his fifth year despite being one of Mel Kiper’s top guard prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Maryland product has shown off his versatility lining up at guard, tackle and even taking some snaps at center. Johnson should be a prime candidate for Preseason All-America accolades on the offensive line when the summer preview magazines coming out in June and one of the top offensive line prospects nationally in the 2022 NFL Draft … Ezechiel Tiede hails from Lachine, Quebec and played quarterback at St. Paul’s in high school, but the redshirt junior is starting to come into his own at wide receiver this spring. At 6’2” and 205 pounds, he has an excellent frame at the position and runs well. Tiede has been on the receiving end of several big plays from quarterback Phil Jurkovec and appears to be another promising target in a loaded wide receivers room … redshirt sophomore Jack Conley has shown versatility lining up at both tackle spots this spring on the offensive line and is developing into a player who could be counted on for playing time in 2021 … Temple transfer defensive tackle Khris Banks had a TFL and recovered a fumble during team periods on Tuesday … Jurkovec showed off his athleticism with a quarterback keeper for a long run on Tuesday … redshirt freshman running back Andre Hines also ripped off a first-down run during team periods … junior Shitta Sillah recorded another would-be sack if the quarterbacks were live Tuesday along with graduate student Chibueze Onwuka … Zay Flowers showed his ability to take the top off the defense with two long receptions on Tuesday.

Final spring practice, 2 hours, full pads
Thursday’s practice notes: Mike Palmer had a big day roaming the middle of the field at free safety as the New York native picked off two passes during team periods … defensive tackle Cam Horsley also had a productive day with a sack and TFL … defensive tackle Khris Banks swatted down a pass during team period … freshman running back Xavier Coleman showed off his wheels with a long, 40-yard run along with a 20-yard burst … Brandon Barlow and TJ Rayam teamed up for a would-be sack … Marcus Valdez also contributed a sack and teamed up with junior linebacker Hugh Davis on a stop for a loss in the BC backfield … during 7-on-7 work in the red zone, Phil Jurkovec connected on touchdown passes to Joey Luchetti and Jaelen Gill … true freshman linebacker Casey Phinney recovered a fumble during team period … Matthew Rueve drilled a nice sideline completion to Ethon Williams, who toe-tapped to get both feet in … CJ Burton tipped a ball into the hands of Shawn Asbury II for an interception … both true freshmen have been very active in the secondary this spring for the Eagles … Lewis Bond broke free for a couple big plays in the passing game Thursday, including a beautiful, open-field spin move to pick up an extra chunk of yards … Jehlani Galloway also continued to be a productive target with a couple receptions during team periods … the breakdown of Team Boston and Team Eagles for the spring game will be announced on Friday. BC’s offensive players will wear white while the defense will wear maroon on Saturday

I've never been sure how to understand practice results. Palmer intercepted two passes; who was on offense for those? Jurkovec hit TD passes in 7-on-7...so who was defending Luchetti and Gill.

It must be that you're hoping play is "crisp", where people know their assignments such that mental mistakes are minimized if not eliminated. Then I guess you hope the "winner" each play has to do really well to succeed. But reading these write-ups, I don't know what to think.

same will be true for the big game tomorrow. reading the comments here will leave you wondering if people were watching the same game as the threve posts come in describing the worst team they've ever seen while the remainder of the posts talk about all the awesome things that happened. people that love to bitch about stuff, like me, enjoy the opportunity to bitch about the side that does poorly. kinda like every mo'j post but more accurate

Not news.
We are in a world of hurt at the LB position.

eh i think the FSU transfer slots there and assuming health (risky), i think that's a step up from both mcduffie and richardson. throw in the temple transfer, bryce steel, and some of the young kids step up i think we'll be alright

i'm more concerned about the front 4

I really don’t think we’re losing a ton with Richardson and McDuffie. Announcers loved them because they made a lot of tackles

I'm sure their backups are beter

This.

Final assessment
Boston College is in an interesting spot in a league that has been defined by Clemson dominance for the better part of a decade. It’s hard to break into the tier below the Tigers and stay there, and UNC, Miami and others are farther along in that process and dealing with the resulting challenges of sustained contention, things BC may not have to concern itself with for a few more years. But getting there is the ultimate goal. In the short and medium terms, the Eagles are trying to recruit at a higher level to put better athletes out on the field as they try to close the gap.

For this season, Boston College looks to be in great shape, as any ACC team with a reliable, good quarterback should be (because there are so few). The pieces are there to break through that perennial 7-5 threshold and get to eight wins for the first time since 2009.

What teams aren’t getting enough offseason attention?

https://theathletic.com/2581814/2021/05/12/what-teams-arent-getting-enough-offseason-attention-an-expanded-playoff-or-the-old-bowl-system/

Boston College in Jeff Hafley’s first season gave us a little tease of its potential with a surprisingly entertaining 6-5 season. The Eagles led Clemson into the fourth quarter and very nearly took UNC to overtime. Dane Brugler recently included QB Phil Jurkovec in the top 15 of his early 2022 mock draft, and BC also welcomes back first-team All-ACC receiver Zay Flowers and the entire offensive line. I’m excited to see what the Eagles can do after a full offseason in Hafley’s system. After opening with three cupcakes, they face Missouri in Week 4. It would be big for the program to beat an SEC foe. And then it’s Clemson the following week.
