Funny how he didn’t say what that NFL job was. Working a concession stand?

I'm guessing it was lucrative too based on how Hafley commented he didn't think he would stay. maybe homoJS is wrong and he is actually a good coach i.e. the lack of spring ball, conditioning due to the pandemic, and scheme change (man to zone) as well as the adjustments of having to actually pass block were the reasons the OL look like trash this year.

Run blocking to pass blocking is not a scheme change. Man to zone is a scheme change.

yeah, momentary mental lapse there for a second.

they did change from man to zone though, right? or am I imagining this?

I believe they added zone schemes, yes but other than Mike Shanahan, I don't think too many people go all zone run blocking.

90% true. Some teams that are looking to go more shotgun will swap their tackles and guards. Protects the middle with bigger bodies as that is the most direct path to QB. Getting more athletic guards on the end of the line also helps against very athletic defense ends that traditional tackles struggle to pick up. So that’s your pass blocking. When you do this, it now impacts your run scheme and what you can do. Your traditional “tackles” don’t pull as well as your traditional “guards”.

Jags did. But, the thing is... if you need a ton of time to implement a preferred system, but aren't permitted that time (or don't have that personnel), you should accordingly adjust the scheme instead of stubbornly implementing something that's destined to fail. A great example of this was the first two seasons of Daz where HCRD adjusted to his personnel and Third Down Donnie Brown refused to.

The DE transfer from UMASS, Byczko, doesn't appear to be on the Spring roster. Is he not coming?

regarding the OL, I think a legit offseason weight room schedule will help all these guys with their run blocking. Run blocking is mostly from your powerhouse, and there was NO way these guys were doing FBS level Deadlifts and Squats from March to August of 2020. Lindstrom and Petrula were blown back into the backfield on at least 40% of run plays, and ideally a real offseason weight program will help with that embarrassing sight.

I'm sure a smart ass will say, well everyone was at that disadvantage. IDK, I think the Bama's of the world found a way to have their lineman on a legit weight room course year round. And I think BC respected the COVID pandemic, and left these guys to be spotted by their Dad in the basement until August came around.

I also think that the truth is that Daz's 2 and 3 TE formations and Dillon running behind it masked that these guys were pretty mediocre at run blocking. Hafley didn't want to throw them and the previous staff under the bus by mentioning that.

The run blocking improved at the end of last year it seemed like.

Zero teams other than the Terrell Davis Broncos run zone on every down. But you'll be right no matter what you say so who gives a fuck.

when you two do handstand hugs, who gets to stay on their feet and who has to do the handstand?

my assumption is that because tedwardo is so much taller, he's the one that has to go upside down. otherwise things likely wouldn't "line up"

Depends on whether we are in zone or man.

The more affirmative tedwardo is on a topic the higher the likelihood of its wrongness. Typical of this ignorance is the referenced exception of "Terrell Davis Broncos."
Can't wait for his posts to enter its next phase (denial) of being wrong (which often manifests as identifying fallacies)... ultimately, concluding in the dismissive (e.g. "don't care"). We all know the pattern and we all laugh at the false bravado.

2 hour practice. Helmets only.

Saturday’s notebook: One noticeable sight during the first practice of the spring was the change in physical appearance several players made during the off-season under head strength and conditioning coach Phil Matusz and his staff … Saturday was the first opportunity to see 12 true freshmen who enrolled in January. Quarterback Emmett Morehead has prototypical size (6’5”, 225 pounds) and showed off a strong, accurate arm. The depth in the quarterback room with returning starter Phil Jurkovec along with Dennis Grosel, Matt Valecce, Matthew Rueve, Daelen Menard and Morehead has improved vastly in two years under offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti. Rueve was one of the players who looked to make major gains in the weight room in the off-season … True freshman running back Xavier Coleman flashed a tremendous burst in the hole and showed off his speed and versatility in the passing game on a 45-yard reception during team periods … First-Team All-ACC wide receiver Zay Flowers picked up right where he left off last season with two long completions from Jurkovec during team work. The connection between the two has been there from the first day of spring practice last season as Jurkovec lofted two deep completions to Flowers behind the secondary for 50+ yards … the cornerbacks looked to gain the upper hand against the wide receivers in one-on-one drills early in practice. All-ACC defensive back Josh DeBerry showed off his tremendous ball skills and also picked off a pass … true freshman corner Shawn Asbury II had an interception during team work Saturday … Jaelen Gill, now wearing No. 1, had a long reception over the middle from Jurkovec … Grosel hooked up with Ezechiel Tiede for a touchdown during 11-on-11 action … BC resumes spring practice on Tuesday morning inside Fish Field House.
