God isn't a genie who grants wishes, and BC isn't just a 501(c)(3) that exists to provide lodging and meals to 19 year olds who can run fast and jump high.

The mission of the school is to support the spiritual formation of young men and women who will exemplify the Catholic virtues in their relationships and communities while spreading the Word.

Is it so crazy to want the school's highest-paid and most visible employee to reference that mission every once in a while?

Is it so crazy to think that the reason he doesn't is because he doesn't consider that mission to be relevant to his job?

I get it if some want Hafley to say more...but if he ain't saying it, it means no one above him said it's a requirement to do so. He's got a lot on his plate already, since we all want 10-2. Hafley doesn't have to pray for that, that's your job as an alum/fan.

And the faith thing has been run into the ground by Daz. I'm good without it for another season or two.

BC donned new adidas practice jerseys along with a new, gold helmet at Friday’s practice … the gold helmet is a deeper shade of gold than previous years … junior quarterback Phil Jurkovec was named to the Manning Award Watch List. The award is given annually to the nation’s top quarterback … Alec Lindstrom was named to the Lombardi Award Watch List as well … officials were on hand for the first practice of the season. Among the group was BC Varsity Club Hall of Fame selection John Salmon ’69, who was a football and baseball standout during his career at the Heights. He still ranks second in school history with 17 career interceptions and helped lead the baseball team to the 1966 College World Series … BC alum Gary Dancewicz ’71, who is an ACC official, was also part of the officiating crew on Friday … Dancewicz has officiated more than 20 bowl games along with two College Football Playoff games … BC held in-person media availability for the first time since March of 2020 Friday … the Globe, Herald, Heights, New England Football Journal and WBZ-TV were in attendance … BC resumes preseason camp Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m. inside Fish Field House.

Was on campus for a bit today and swung by the new field house. Was surprised to get to watch a bit of practice. No shower access, but the team looks crisp in practice.

The facility is absolutely incredible and the lower campus looks amazing.

Driving through Nevada yesterday, the local sportsbook has BC at 500-1 for the National Champion. So I threw $10 on em. I mean, why not?

News and Notes: NFL scouts from the Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys were in attendance so far this preseason … after just two practices, the connection between quarterback Phil Jurkovec and tight end Trae Barry looks to be in mid-season form. Barry was on the receiving end of several completions from Jurkovec Saturday both in 7-on-7 and team work. Barry, a 6’6” tight end transfer from Jacksonville State, moves extremely well for a player his size … “He's enormous, extremely long, and he is very hard to cover,” Hafley noted about Barry following practice … one day after Hafley spoke to the media about BC’s intentions to throw the ball to the tight ends, it was on full display Saturday. Barry, Spencer Witter and Joey Luchetti all hooked up on the receiving end from Jurkovec during practice … True freshman defensive end Neto Okpala and sophomore linebacker Kam Arnold teamed up for a TFL during team work … wide receiver CJ Lewis made a leaping grab over the middle for a long gain during 7-on-7s … one bright spot in a loaded wide receiver room has been the return of Kobay White from a season-ending knee injury last season … White, who changed his number to seven this season, came up with two terrific receptions in traffic from Jurkovec during team periods … redshirt freshman Matt Rueve found sophomore running back Pat Garwo for a long reception on Saturday … West Virginia transfer running back Alec Sinkfield showed off his top-end speed with a long gain during 11-on-11s … Florida State transfer defensive back Jaiden Lars-Woodbey has provided an immediate impact both in terms of leadership and on-field play in the BC secondary … BC returns to camp for a lighter day of work on Sunday before revving things back up Monday when shoulder pads come on for the first time … the Eagles are next scheduled to meet the media post-practice on Monday.
