This makes sense given the regional nature of New Balance. I believe we floated such a deal here a few years ago after NB acquired Warrior. Under Armour just paid to get out of the Cincy deal. So, I wonder what they offered us to move on.

I see this as a bad thing, although I heard NB does make good sneakers. Kids want to wear Nikes not NB.

NO chance we get some sweet LA Gear?

The only Adidas schools that come to mind are Nebraska and Notre Dame, but ND was yrs ago. Hated Under Armor, preferred our Reebok stuff to that.

Adidas outfits a bunch of college football teams.

The NB deal is bad for basketball

BC is bad for basketball.

I think in the whole Addidas/Nike circuit thing and feeding kids to one-and-down schools is kinda over. The NBA is going to be taking those kids directly from AAU and putting them in Development Leagues. The whole college BB thing (which has been a joke for some time) will have to readjust in the new world. Pay-for-play simply will not be as big of a driver in new state (as these kids can just play professionally from the jump and not bother pretending to be students for 3 months).

BC would be better off waiting for a Nike deal in 2 years when Hafley has BC ranked in the top 15. The last time basketball had NB was under Gary Williams. I can’t see hockey wearing anything NB. Adidas sucks.

Go Eagles!

Stupid is as stupid does.

Besides the regular gnashing of teeth that comes with these deals from certain members of the board, I happen to believe that (as we saw with UnderArmour), it isn't about the name of the brand providing the sponsorship... it is all about the execution. NB has been very, very selective in the manner in which it has pursued partnerships. They have been signed with Maine and apparently are about to move in on Denver. They also recently entered a deal with the NBA. Bottom line is that if BC became their version of Maryland or Oregon, it is infinitely more valuable than being the 108th team in Nike's portfolio. The inclusion of Addidas for FB just means that there will be run-of-the-mill gear also available for folks who like to shop at Outlets from Kittery to Woodbury.

Pretty sure UA terminated that deal over the summer and UCLA sued them over it. Maybe they resolved the suit.

Football not a part of the deal apparently. Remains to be seen what they’ll wear.

50% increase and contract doesn't include football

would rather be the #1 school for new balance than the 239048th for nike / ua

it's 50% "per athlete" so football should not be included in either the numerator or the denominator. this is right up there with the cost of scholarships impacting the budget on the "confuse them with accounting" descriptors

but good for new balance. their leadership are a bunch of short sighted assholes that don't know how to run a business or get out of their own way, but at least their money will still spend

If only we had someone on the board who was qualified to opine on the appropriate type of track and field unitard and it’s efficiency for ghay sex.

Jim Davis and his wife own NB. Their daughter is a 2010 BC grad and she is on the board of regents, one step below the trustees. This is all about getting donations from the Davis family for the next 30 years versus an athletic apparel deal. The deal pays BC 4.5 million annually. Adidas is outfitting the football team.

BC track team will use the new track facility that NB is building at their HQ building. I don’t know if hockey will get practice time at the Warrior Ice rink, but that would solve the need for a practice facility.

Go Eagles!

Jim Davis will probably also be the lead donor for the basketball practice facility.
