I thought he was practicing and was back for the game. I didn’t realize he was out. Just thought he wasn’t getting looks (which has largely been exclusive to Zay, TEs and RBs).

Valdez was a monster today. Nice to see McDuffie get back on track. Prior to his injury, I thought he’d be a sure fire NFL draft pick.

No one in their right mind had the OLine being this bad. No one in their right mind had that secondary being that good.

Good to see the offense be aggressive with downfield throws today. Jurkovec can play and has a nice touch on his throws. Secondary was miles ahead this year over last. There is hope for this team yet. Run D needs to improve though.

That was great. First half was rusty, but holy shit halftime adjustments for the first time in at least 10 years. Jurk improved throughout, Hunter Long was great. Lots of positives. Defense reminds me of some of the 08 team a little bit.

Tons of credit and respect to Hafley and the defensive coaches and players.

I just read last night (from some links on ATL's blog) how Hafley is huge on preventing big plays and winning the turnover battle. Last year's D was very poor most of the season. They went to more of a bend-but-don't-break philosophy. They still gave up a lot of yards and first downs, but only 1 real big play and three turnovers near their own goal to prevent scores -- just a great effort.

Lots to be happy with today. An overall great performance on both sides of the ball. What impressed me most was the improvement in the second half. On offense, Flowers and Long made Jurk look great with several outstanding individual efforts. Jurk himself was composed, and really settled in after a mixed effort in the first half. On defense we saw a lot of yard but some great playmaking. Even the relatively easy looking INTs were a product of 1. awareness (the first) and 2. pressure (the second).

Duke did us a lot of favors and there are plenty of issues for the staff to work with all week. The LB play and susceptibility to chunk plays wasn’t great. The OL was really not great for most of the game. The missed XP can’t keep happening. Lindstrom’s late penalty could have been much more costly in a closer game.

But those problems aside the culture difference was evident from the first drive. Fourth down calls. Some ballsy decisions that were not just trick plays. A willingness to adapt and take calculated risks. Optimism is warranted for the first time in a while.
