9/19 at Duke W (1-0)
9/26 vs Texas State W (2-0)
10/3 vs North Carolina W (3-0)
10/10 vs Pittsburgh L (3-1)
10/17 at Virginia Tech L (3-2)
10/24 vs Georgia Tech W (4-2)
10/31 at Clemson L (4-3)
11/7 at Syracuse W (5-3)
11/14 vs Notre Dame W (6-3)
11/27 vs Louisville L (6-4)
12/5 at Virginia W (7-4)

This is somewhat optimistic but I’d be happy with it. I think we should be a lot better than people are predicting.

Unfortunately

9/19 at Duke (L)
9/26 vs Texas State (W)
10/3 vs North Carolina (W)
10/10 vs Pittsburgh (L)
10/17 at Virginia Tech (L)
10/24 vs Georgia Tech (W)
10/31 at Clemson (L)
11/7 at Syracuse (L)
11/14 vs Notre Dame (L)
11/27 vs Louisville (L)
12/5 at Virginia (W)

4-7

I hope I am way wrong, but he is a rookie coach and the pantry is empty of talent. Hafley may (someday) wind up being an outstanding coach with an outstanding team, but Matt Ryan, Andre Callender, Mark Herzlich, and Ron Brace are not on this roster. The ONLY similarities this year has with 2007 is that both first year BC head coaches share the same first name.

I'll take 5-6. This team has very little talent on defense and the special teams will be the usual mess. The offense can/should score plenty of points.

I get that the ACC is pretty bad, but:

1. I've never seen this guy coach a game before nor have I seen the QB throw a pass before. I have a hard time believing they're worse than Daz and Grosel, but still...
2. The defense is going to be terrible until Hafley gets better talent in here
3. Special Teams will continue to be bad until the talent/athleticism improves (especially in the secondary since a bunch of those guys are the gunners, etc. on ST)

Love the Hafley hire and think it'll be great long-term, but I'd be pretty thrilled with .500 this year.

I predicted just one more win than you predicted so I am only slightly more optimistic. But as for the defense, last year they fielded one of their worst defenses ever and still went 4-4 in the ACC. This year, they've added the 4* safety from Maryland, a healthy McDuffie, a solid DL transfer from Cal and one from Buffalo who may have some upside. Plus better coaching and the unit should be much improved. They'll still get smoked by Clemson and maybe ND, but they should be in most of the other games.

6-5 (5-5 ACC). If Jurkovec lives up to the hype and stays healthy, then maybe we'll have our 10-2 season.

Conservatively, I'd agree with this and your later comments. If Jurkovec and the other newcomers are just okay, 6-5 is where I see them. That said, they are going to score a lot of points and the margin for error for teams like VT and the Ville is small.

Anything less than the above 6-5 seems like a failure to me... Even Dazaster could do that the majority of years he was here.

Not with 10 conference games which includes #10 ND. Under the old 2020 schedule, 8-4 would have been a reasonable expectation.

This is my thought. Yeah, this 2020 BC team appears to be stronger than the 2015 team but it isn't nearly as good as the 2013 team, the 2018 team, or the 2014 team (Addazio's best team.) I'm thinking with these kids, Daz wins 4 games (including Texas State.)

I don't think Daz has ever won more than 4 ACC games in a single season and with losses to Purdue and Kansas, I am not even sure if Daz has won more than 5 Power-5 games in a single season. There are 10 ACC/Power-5 games on this schedule, the hardest schedule BC has had since 1995.

The schedule is not that hard but it is far harder than the normal fare that the Dazzler lunched on. Dazzler doesn't go .500 with this talent and schedule.

Drawing Notre Dame, Louisville, Clemson, and a very tough UNC, I believe that of the 15 ACC teams, BC may have drawn the toughest ACC schedule in 2020. Notre Dame may have drawn the second toughest ACC schedule and (as such) I do not expect to see them play Clemson in the ACC Championship. Going by schedule strength, it appears that NC State may have the easiest schedule and (as a result) I expect to see them get their asses kicked by Clemson in early December.

I’m with eppy on this. While I love the Hafley hire, it is going to take more than a couple months to rebuild the roster. Further, first time head coach plus entirely new coaching staff plus no Spring ball plus newly arrived QB plus the most difficult schedule since possibly Henning equals a losing record.

Hafley has a Coughlin-like feel to him. Accordingly, I see him having a similar first season... 4-7.

Love the Hafley hire and think it'll be great long-term, but I'd be pretty thrilled with .500 this year.

9/26 vs Texas State - W
10/3 vs North Carolina - L
10/10 vs Pittsburgh - L
10/17 at Virginia Tech - L
10/24 vs Georgia Tech - W
10/31 at Clemson - L
11/7 at Syracuse - W
11/14 vs Notre Dame - L
11/27 vs Louisville - L
12/5 at Virginia - W

Hafley has a Coughlin-like feel to him. Accordingly, I see him having a similar first season... 4-7.

You forgot Duke, but based on your record, I guess you're saying that is an L.

Coughlin inherited a team that went 4-7 including a 29-10 loss at home to Temple to end the season. Their only wins in 1990 were over the academies, Rutgers and WVU. Also, Coughlin did not benefit from a handful of grad transfers to upgrade multiple positions of weakness in his first year.

Daz took a 2-10 team and went 7-6 in his first year.

I'll take 5-6. This team has very little talent on defense and the special teams will be the usual mess. The offense can/should score plenty of points.

You are absolutely mental if you think this team is going 5-6.

Did I guess low or high?

Way too low

I get that the ACC is pretty bad, but:

1. I've never seen this guy coach a game before nor have I seen the QB throw a pass before. I have a hard time believing they're worse than Daz and Grosel, but still...
2. The defense is going to be terrible until Hafley gets better talent in here
3. Special Teams will continue to be bad until the talent/athleticism improves (especially in the secondary since a bunch of those guys are the gunners, etc. on ST)

Transfers are the big reason this season won’t be a trainwreck. He identified the areas of weakness (QB, WR, DL, S) and brought in 2 talented DL who received all conference honors in their respective conferences and a QB,WR,S who were all highly touted, freakishly talented athletes coming out of high school. Integrating them with 4 All-ACC OL, future NFL TE Hunter Long, Bailey and pretty much all of last years team plus McDuffie. Fuck all you negative nancies who think we are going to suck this year... there’s only one games completely out of reach on this years schedule plus another highly probable loss against UNC (and perhaps another if you are drinking the ND kool aid).

I’ll say it again... Anything less than 6 regular season wins this year is a disaster (as long as Phil is healthy).

Well... in hindsight, it is looking more and more that Daz’s immediate turnaround had a lot more to do with his assistants than him. That said, I don’t give a shit what any coach does in Year One from a record perspective. I care what he is doing in Years Three and Four (when he has his system in place with a roster full of his players). If you want to focus on Year One only, hire from within or hire a well-seasoned head coach.
