I am holding out for greed. A football less fall will wreck college sports. Lots of cushy administrators are going to be out on their asses and non-rev sports are going to get cut to the bone.

The pro leagues have billionaire owners who can backstop things and use covid to control future costs. College isn't the same model.

Pro players all have unions to negotiate on behalf of their collective interests. Colleges have a lot more latitude to pursue such greed.

I think putting kids in a situation where they may catch something that (so far) seems to randomly kill or permanently disable some people who get it, even if the risk is relatively low, spooks the sh*t out of people.

It's ^. The response on this from the people who should be keeping us safe is embarrassing (both political parties are guilty here). Even if there's a vaccine, kids 18-22 are going to be last to be vaccinated (or close to last) so I can't see them playing in the Spring. Maybe next Fall, but it would require a vaccine hitting pretty early in '21.

How are each of the two parties responsible? I'm not saying that to be partisan. I just want to understand what you're thinking in terms of where the Republicans are responsible (I guess WH vs. Congress), vs. how the Congressional Democrats bear responsibility for the present situation.

There is only one party that is responsible for this mess: the Chinese Communist Party.

Very surprising that Indiana, PED State & Ohio St voted no.
If it comes to a vote in the ACC, FSU, Clemson & Louisville will let the kids play; Duke will definitely be a no vote.

Very surprising indeed. Its almost so surprising that Ohio State voted no that I don't believe it.

I'm not surprised about Indiana, they have an incoming freshman who came down sick after a few weeks of camp, and has been struggling, possibly with some heart damage: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2020/08/04/indiana-football-players-mother-posts-covid-19-diagnosis/5579821002/.

It appears that IU did all the right things, but it still happened. I said this before - I think lineman are going to have more problems than others, because of the ridiculous amount of weight they have to carry.

They're not playing football in the spring. Asking kids to play 20+ games in that period of time is insane (especially when they're trying to unionize for health benefits, etc.)

There is more risk to long term injury playing 2 full schedules within 7 months than there is Coronavirus with that age group. There is also the issue that April is the NFL Draft. It would require a massive change in the NFL calendar to accommodate. Playing FB in the Spring is completely about money. If they gave a crap about the kids, it would be either cancel the season or play the season. The half-pregnant play in the Spring doesn't make the slightest bit of sense.

OK...here's the plan in the Big 12 drops out:

1) Push the opening games back to the first week of October
b) teams play a 6 game schedule, all in their division
iii) at the end of the season, #1 in Atlantic plays #2 in Coastal and #1 in Coastal plays #1 in Atlantic
kwatro) winners play each other for ACC Championship

SEC follows same model; ACC Champion vs. SEC Champion for National Championship

People in Columbus, Ann Arbor, and State College PA are losing their shit today. People in authority in the ACC and SEC are taking notice.

There is a real opportunity here for the ACC. Now they have a bargaining chip with top blue chip recruits from the Midwest (and also the West Coast) IF (and only if) they play this season. Come to BC if you actually want to PLAY.

If the ACC stays in (big if) then that might be only reason the SEC needs to stay in. We might get one cross-conference game. The Big-XII? That is a master-slave relationship. They are just going to do whatever Texas tells them to do.

It appears the Big-XII will be playing this fall. Well, that is the plan. That is also the plan for the ACC and the SEC. Now plans change, but so far (since the conferences came up with new schedules), these plans have NOT changed.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29641285/acc-sec-say-football-plans-remain-unchanged

John Swofford, Greg Sankey, and Bob Bowlsby need to get in a room somewhere and hammer out these OOC games. Let the NCAA figure out how it wants to handle the bowls and the national championship with half of college football not playing.

Can you imagine what it will be like at Ohio State in early October, with the whole football team, angrily sitting in a room together on Saturday afternoon watching college football and NOT playing? There are millions of college football fans there. I am going to have to "defer" to the EO members here who live in Ohio, but if I had to guess, the sports talk radio programs have been inundated with angry and vengeful calls. I can't wait to put on KTAR this afternoon and listen to the angry Sun Devil/Wildcat shut-ins here in Phoenix losing their shit over the Pac-12 bailing this fall.

Also, if the SEC, the ACC, and the Big-XII DO play this fall, it must be very humbling and humiliating for the Big-T(14)N who THOUGHT they had as much "clout" as the SEC to realize that the other three conferences don't give a shit. Well, at least the West Coast submitted.

Offensive Coordinator

He appeared very happy in this interview, very enthusiastic. I think that is because the ACC has not thrown in the towel the way they did on the West Coast and the Mid-West.

ROFL!!!!

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/08/11/big-ten-pac-12-cancel-fall-seasons-college-football-splinters-teeters/#comments-wrapper

President Trump's name is mentioned five or six times. But the phrase "ACC"? Only twice. Is this a sports column or a political column?

I fucking LOVE this part!

Adam Kilgore {l Wrote}:The Big Ten’s and Pac-12′s decisions were the latest steps toward the full cancellation of an American sporting staple that has unfolded every autumn for 150 years. But with the sport lacking a central authority, other major conferences have indicated they either intend to play this fall or will wait before deciding, and presidents from the Big 12 voted Tuesday night to move forward with the season, according to widespread reports. The Big Ten and Pac-12 said they could play football in the spring, although the logistics of doing so remain unclear.

That is right Adam, NO CENTRAL AUTHORITY. I know people like you (who can't imagine a world where one person isn't making ALL the decision) can't understand that but that is a "feature" and not a "bug" in the college football system. The ACC can (and apparently IS) telling the Big-T(14)N to go piss up a rope, we are playing even if you aren't.

I wouldn't get too excited about the ACC or other conferences saying they still intend to play as of today. I love that they are not throwing in the towel too, but we still have a month to go before the first (currently scheduled) game. Sept. 19 may as well be 10 years from now the way this whole thing is playing out. Let's see what things look like September 1 and then I'll start to let myself get excited about football.
