And yeah, listening to those two isn't ideal.

I doubt any of the coaches will be retained. Maybe Gunnell but I doubt it.

Three years guaranteed at $750k (or whatever bump he gets) is pretty good at least financially.

Would strongly approve Camp as DC. Young, well-liked by all and a good recruiter. Haf can help him game plan etc. The key will be the OC.

Why? From NJ, spent most of his coaching career at Princeton, and has a 3-year deal when most assistants are year-to-year.

Gleeson is very young. He just was in one of the most coveted coordinator jobs in football. Gundy’s OCs go on to become head coaches and $1mm OCs at schools like Texas. They don’t crawl back to Jersey to get a stable gig under Schiano. Gleeson’s name was floated as potential head coach in Piscataway and I believe was even mentioned by posters here for the Hafley gig. I just think that, for one someone considered to be an up-and-comer, taking a backwards step at his age is a bizarre career move.

Yep. Schiano, Campanile, Brown, and Panagos are all excellent recruiters. Gleeson will be billed as a superstar and they also just brought back former player Tiquan Underwood as the young personable assistant. Hafley is a better recruiter than all of them. But, he can’t do it alone. Schiano is doing what he was hired to do and has somehow quickly culled together an impressive staff.

Hafley would be well served to build a staff that has contacts beyond Jersey. Schiano’s staff is focused exclusively on Jersey and will result in a lot of wasted resources on our part to try to fight over the Evan Stewarts of the world. I hope to see some geographic diversity on the staff.

trust feldman when it comes to evaluation of coaches. not surprising a veteran with overlap at pitt and i'm sure hafley's mentor wannstedt vouched for him.

making age generalizations here but probably want to go younger, recruiting guru as DC

Which one?

He has mastered FCS football. Hopefully, he can do this. OR?

It matters.

Oof... Cignetti is not a strong hire as OC. With Scott Turner or Kevin O'Connell, you could bill it as some sort of new generation OC. Cignetti is like hiring Todd Fitch. I wouldn't care as much if it wasn't such a critical position for a new HC who hasn't had any experience on the offensive side of the ball.

Seemed to be the plan especially given Hafley’s comfort on defense. Would track with bringing in Camp or someone like that.

He’s done well but it was a while ago. My concern is that OC was always going to be tough. On one hand need a lot of innovative scheme knowledge and on the other you want an old hand that Hafley is comfortable with and trusts. There’s not much overlap in those two buckets

Okay thank you.

I suppose either one of them could do the job. They are both much older than Hafley.

I don't like this hire either at all. Completely uninspired and he's been fired pretty much everywhere he's been.

Cignetti is a worse OC than pretty much any that Daz could land. If he truly also missed out on Camp, Hafley is off to a very shaky start. I mean... if he can't land his top coordinators and had to fall back to Wannestadt calling in favors... that doesn't bode well.
