I guess it would be similar to Daz getting hired as say an OL coach at like Penn State and someone asking one of us what they thought of it.

I'm guessing you meant Trautwein. And yes, exactly that.

Nahh, I was just making up a comparison with an over matched coach stepping down a level at a better program to something he'd be better suited. I know Trautwein went to PSU, but I thought he was a good OL coach for us. Daz was an overmatched HC who was by all accounts a very good OL coach much like Abdur-Rahim appears to have been an overmatched DC who was a very good position coach.

They're rumblings UMass may drop football - real lukewarm interview with chancellor sparked it. Maybe BC is just way more desirable even with the title step down.

Interesting story, and apparently a great recruiter of the DC/Maryland/VA area.

OC/QB Cignetti
DC Tem
LB Duggan
DB Aazar

Still a decent amount of spots to fill.

Love the hire. He spent enough time under Saban to be considered a NY Giants head football coach.

This is well played.

That said, given he coaches the side of the ball and the positiong at which Hafley is a guru, and the fact that he is a great recruiter in a key area, this hire seems great.

For the remaining staff positions, I would love an accomplished veteran coach at OL and DL. The rest I want to be just like Aazaar... young, aggressive recruiters with different regional connections. Let’s get someone with strong Midwest ties (that may already be Duggan), someone who’ll recruit Florida and the South, and someone who connects with Cali and West Coast kids.

We should have one coach in every state. That way, if a state has a good player, we get him!

FWIW AAR was able to put together a not completely terrible recruiting class at UMass (#83 in the country). I imagine he can do quite a bit better here. Him and Duggan will be great I think

yeah, I think that probably makes sense, and if position coaches are mostly just recruiters than it is fine. I'm just pulling a homojs and being critical for the sake of being critical.

Appears to be him. Not seeing what connection he has with any coach on the staff, but I'm on board with another young guy with something to prove.

OC/QB Cignetti
OL ???
RB Gunnell
WR Dailey
TE ???

DC Tem
DL ???
LB Duggan
DB Aazar

Sp Teams ???

S&C Matusz

I think Hafley mentioned having 10 or 11 assistants, so I think he can add a couple others (Daz had an Outside LB coach, a DE coach, etc). really hope we add at least one other ace recruiter like Aazar.

He says he’s the stepson...

https://mwwire.com/2019/07/31/joe-dailey-new-mexico-lobos-new-offensive-coordinator-takes-the-reins/

“He took me in as one of his own even though my mom and him had no relationship. I was best friends with his son,” Dailey said. “He then adopted me into his family at the age of 12 or 13. He even had four kids already. I was privileged to raise as one of his five kids, I was adopted.”

Give me a vet coaches at DL and OL and recruiters at TE and ST... and this staff would be just about perfect.

We all want Hafley and all his assistant coaches to succeed. We all want Hafley to be the greatest coach in the history of BC football. There is no doubt in my mind, that for at least the last 6 years, Boston College has had the toughest, most competitive conference schedule in the entire history BC football. And I don't see it getting any easier. So much is expected of Hafley. This job will not be easy, the Atlantic division is very tough nationally. We've been burned and discouraged over the last 11 years. Lets hope that all comes to an end.

NCAA allows 10 on field coaches. I’d like us to get some analysts in as well like all the big programs are doing. That would show a real commitment to winning.
