Unless the rest of the staff is strong, I worry about their ability to get players given cignetti is a bit of a retread and Hafley doesn’t have offensive experience.

My concern about Cignetti is that he was so poorly thought of that he wasn't employed by anyone at any level last year. I don't know how you go from not getting paid for year to coordinator at a Power 5 school... but, there you have it. I guess Gary Tranquill was the last to pull it off.

Again... I question the rush to hire him unless Hafley exhausted all other bridges (which is troubling).

Good point about him not being in the biz this past year - i forgot he was canned well before the season. It gets me just a smidgen worried the Haf may lean too much on people who were nice to him early in his coaching career

All indications are that neither Al Washington nor Anthony Campanile will be walking through the door. I'm less concerned about DC (as Hafley could wear a dual hat). What I find disconcerting is a guy (a) largely considered an up-and-comer who has bigger jobs in his future, (b) considered a real good guy to work with (c) was just handed a multi-year contract at a very patient institution. This is usually music to an assistant coach's ears. And yet... Hafley can't get anyone of not to come aboard. That's a problem. In comparison, Schiano has had no trouble assembling a staff we would be over-the-moon about. This even though he allegedly enabled child rape and (as a result) has no prospects of ever getting another job.

No one thought highly enough of Mike McCarthy last year either and he won a Super Bowl

Plenty of head coaches can take a year off because they still get paid while not working. Your implication that QB coaches have similar deals is a surprise.

This is not surprising but it's pretty clear that a thing that always happened has happened again.

1) certain posters (and possibly a blogger) are pushing really high quality interesting home run type names;
2) no external sources anywhere backs the interest up (or in one case there is a throwaway line in a blog post in the athletic);
3) a lot of other posters buy in;
4) the actual name is different and not as interesting;
5) the de facto Spaz era continues for the 11th year.

Seriously... this is where we are already? EA warriors back on EO internet warrioring to make sure everyone is happy with every move of our new coach (because recruits read these boards). As Philly intern rambled... the more thing change, the more they stay the same.

BTW, both Cignetti and Lukabu are completely uninspiring hires and I'm not really feeling the beginning of Haftime, but it's still weird to me that we have a non-zero portion of our online fanbase that posts elaborate fan fiction to pretend to be insiders and make like Hansen feel bad when the shit they made up doesn't work out for the 10 trillionth time.

I'm just going to wait over here until Troy Calhoun get hired.

I'd like to see these guys coach and recruit for a couple years before I make any judgement. I still believe this job is a complete rebuild, not a retool. There is a staggering lack of talent on this roster in certain areas.

Admittedly on the surface these are both pretty awful hires.

On the bright side, Lukabu’s father was a prominent politician in Zaire and we know how sons of African politicians do at BC

Nothing else matters but recruiting. NOTHING.

As long as we hire a staff that wastes time on activities like running practices, watching film, designing game plans, we will still be the same old BC. Is that what you want, Teddy? I want us to win. Which is why I want coaches that can RECRUIT.

:toby was not going to be fired at BC. Not unless he stopped putting in the effort. Which he didn't.

We have had 4 head coaches from 1997->Nov of 2019
  • One coach quit because he said it was too much effort (too many days away from his family) to scour the country to find quality players that he knew he needed to win. The job at BC was too much effort and not enough pay
  • One coach was fired because he was given an interview for an NFL head coaching job because he was able to win so many games thanks almost entirely to the talent the last coach left him when that guy quit
  • The other two coaches were fired because they couldn't recruit anyone, couldn't "close" the super-athletes that didn't really want to play for BC

Do you see a pattern here? You better. We have 22+ years of data and evidence to support my argument. Fuck every other argument. I don't give a damn how many of Spaz's or Addazio's recruits went into the NFL if almost all of them "retire" from the NFL after a year or two. Ryan hasn't retired.

As far as Hafley goes, I only care about sales. I have lowered the bar all the way down to sales. That's it. Sell, and let the players just win by out-athleting everyone else. That is all I am looking for at this moment.

Lukabu is an interesting choice. In many ways, he's the complete opposite of the Cignetti hire. If he can recruit, I'm all on board. I remain concerned that Hafley again couldn't close on his first or second choices. However, while Wash and Camp were known recruiting entities at BC, they both were also going to be flyers as it relates to Coordinating.
