1 - At a Christmas event for donors, Martin Jarmond reportedly said that Boston College's new head football coach will be announced on Tuesday and that alums will be happy. Delay in Process: Jarmond needed to convince the BOT to increase their financial commitment to football.

2 - Rumors are that B.C. athletic director Martin Jarmond has presented two finalists for Father Leahy's approval. New head football coach announcement could now happen on Monday or Tuesday.

3 - Further Unsubstantiated Info: The rumor is that one of the finalists presented by Martin Jarmond to Father Leahy is current Ohio St defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.

Personally no thanks on Niumatalolo. I would think we'd want no part of a military-style option-based offense here. That's a shallow read on BC, that our players are smart but un-athletic. How does the triple option exploit our traditional strengths? Going back at least to Yukica, we usually build a powerful and intelligent O-Line that spearheads a strong running game AND a pro-style passing attack. I thought we learned our lesson when we brought in Chlebek and his Veer.

Plus, your Scout team look is now hideous as you can't bring in passers to replicate what your defense faces each week. So the defense doesn't develop. Ergo even worse NFL prospects for your players.

Does it sound like Hafley is the backup if we can't get a bigger fish?

So who would make people "take notice", and require a deeper financial commitment to football? The only one I can think of who would get that kind of attention, and who just might want to relocate East, is Chip Kelly. It seems ludicrous, but Kelly is truly his own duck (har har har). Plus I would think HCRD if anyone would have an inkling of just how interested Kelly might be in such a move. Seems like a win-win for HCRD if he can quietly pass on such a tip and thus fend off Hafley getting poached after one year. Hard for Hafley to complain or feel badly about losing out to Chip Kelly.

Now OTOH if he lost out to Scot Loeffler...

It's not really that Coughlin was third choice IIRC. Gladchuk, rather, didn't want to wait around for Coughlin while the Giants were making their (successful) Super Bowl run that year. But after courting Beamer and then having Laycock jilt him, the timing worked out for Coughlin to interview.

I always had the impression Beamer put it out there he wanted the BC job, we played along but everyone (rightly) figured he was using us to leverage VaTech for an extension. I never understood the appeal of Laycock.

I have no idea how to navigate their site. But Chicks with Sticks apparently claim there is a pep rally for the new coach on Monday. And someone else posted (possibly on EA) that an agreement has been reached with a coach.

A shortcoming of our Hanscom flight watching is that business jets can't fly in from LA without stopping to refuel...
I'll just add ATL said years back Kelly inquired about BC and would've left Oregon for the gig

I think BC’s secrecy helps let them interview candidates quietly and potentially opens opportunities that wouldn’t exist. That said, leaving a potential hire as a “mystery” until the last minute sandbags the fans’ excitement. When u say there is a mystery candidate, people’s minds flood to who would want to be kept secret. Bill O’Brien... Chip Kelly... Mike Vrabel... Urban Meyer... HCRD... Essentially, anyone we ultimately hire is a disappointment when compared to these unrealistic unattainables. No one is thinking Tim Murphy or Dirk Koetter.

Golly, Chip Kelly?? All those who lobbied to keep a second rate coach like Addazio because a change means starting over with a new coach must be tearing their hair out....It would take a total roster overhaul to get the kind of players a Kelly offense would engender. Of course since the ceiling for past 7 years was 7 wins, so maybe the 5 year wait would be worthwhile.

Apparently current and former players are sayings it’s Hafley.

There’s a lot of noise. Look forward to Feldman or Thamel breaking it all down on Tuesday.

is it just me or does this stuff always officially leak on the weekend and then get press conferenced on Monday?
or am I just imagining this?

Two ways of looking at this right now:

1. Are you good with Jeff Hafley? If so be happy.
2. If not, hope this is just an ugly rumor and then be pissed when it gets officially announced. :ace

I'm happy if it's him. I may regret it later but right now he's one of the hottest (no homo) coordinators out there. it would be a solid hire considering our past MAC level hires.

The idea that chip Kelly couldn't win as much as Addazio with Addazio players while getting his guys in is laugh out loud funny. Addazio ran Kelly's scheme his second year with dogshit players.
