I'm not saying we should a pick a coach based on this list, but I'm also not not saying that.

PAC12/MWC win, the Stones/ACDC or GNR combo is tough to beat.

it'd be seamless for Monken to take over. Army doesn't throw and we barely do much better.

I didn't think Taggart would have come here, but I think he would have had a decent chance to succeed. While there's less talent, there's much less pressure at BC then those places. He inherited a lot of under the radar problems from how Jimbo left. And BC doesn't play Florida OOC every year.

I think the same way about Bielema, Butch Jones, etc. Any coaching hire outside of Urban has some risk, and think BC should look at entire body of work not just one stop.

I largely agree. I’m willing to look at a successful coach like Beilema, Jones, Golden, Schiano, Strong, Taggart, Moorhead, Sumlin, Kingsbury, etc and consider the reason(s) they failed in their previous spot. Many of the aforementioned inherited a mess where it was impossible to win at the level an insane fan base demanded. I find retreads by in large to be pretty safe options for a school like BC (Cutcliffe being the prime example at Duke). To be honest, I have no idea why Taggart didn’t work. I know FSU sucked balls Jimbo’s last season there. I recall feeling that TAMU hiring Jimbo was him getting the fuck outta Dodge while he could. These past two years have similarly felt like a continuation of that decline (10-3 to 7-6 to 5-7 to 4-5).

i didn't know / appreciate the complete mess that fsu football has developed into off the field

unsurprisingly the mensa members academic performance in the final years of jimbo was trending towards various penalties.

the president is on his way out this year
the AD was a jamie diloretto type internal hire after no one would take the job and it is believe he's on his way out
the booster club operates like a shadow athletic department

will be interesting search. obviously you can get a corpse into the school, you're in a talent rich area, you're in the acc so it could be a quick turnaround. but also many of the initial lists suggest people who value stability won't look at it.

Jimbo left nothing on the OL, and Taggart hasn’t been able to improve it. Combined with APR issues that get in the way of turning the roster over, this is a long term challenge with sky high expectations. It’s a complete mess and it’ll take 3 or more years to put a good team out there again.

I saw they allowed nine sacks against Miami. I'm thinking we might be able to get a couple with out DL.
Are they better or worse than last year?

The OL went from historically bad by FBS standards, worse than UMass, to simply terrible this year. It is still probably the worst OL we will have played I think Richmond aside.

Anyone have a clue who FSU would be looking at? I'm assuming they think they are bringing Urban back to Florida. But, outside of that, Matt Rhule, PJ Fleck and Matt Campbell (all have zero connections to FSU) are generally the hottest names among college coaches. I wonder if Mark Stoops is someone with strong support (FSU's DC from 2010-2012). Speaking of Stoops, I could see Bob being something they kick the tires on.

They’re looking at those 3 probably. Not sure who would take it, especially with the challenge and the fact that Rhule and Campbell keep getting NFL attention. Fleck doesn’t make much sense. Urban will go to USC if anywhere. Either Stoops probably makes most sense, but without a real AD I’m not sure the job is as attractive for established guys as the potential for success would indicate.

Rhule signed an extension in September thru 2027 so I can't see him leaving this soon. Crazier things have happened though.

Thamel is claiming Franklin is USC's top candidate.

"...the selection of Bohn as the new director of athletics is a “clear sign” USC President Carol Folt wants to go in a different direction than Urban Meyer as the next head coach of the Trojans. “If they wanted to go and get Urban Meyer, they’d need to hire someone he has a strong relationship with.” Thamel added, “The frontrunner for USC to target likely shifts to Penn State’s James Franklin…”

I mentioned that yesterday simply because it makes a bunch of sense based on who they are and what they are looking for.

Supposedly, the deal will be finalized at the end of this week or next. I don't see him coaching a game without at least a week of preparing the team. Would make no sense whatsoever.

Postby claver2010 on Tue Nov 05, 2019 11:18 am

interesting regarding the financials of FSU firing taggart:

That said, the financial implications of letting Taggart go at this point still will be wide-ranging. Florida State needed a $6.15 million transfer from Seminoles Boosters, which liquidated reserve assets, just to balance its athletic budget this summer. A new $60 million football operations building, which was set to open July 2021, was postponed this summer so the athletic department could retool its finance plan.

“Hopefully not,” Coburn said when asked if the coaching change would further delay construction on the football ops building. “I think once we figure out the buyouts and the new salaries, then we’ll have to take a step back and see where we are.”

A fundraising campaign — the school calls it “The Unconquered Campaign” — had had surpassed $70 million in pledges this summer. A significant chunk of that money is on hold in addition to the possible $20 million-plus it could cost to fire Taggart and his staff. Throw in the money it’ll take to hire another coach, assistants and any potential buyout figures associated with them, and that bill could climb closer to $30 million. That’s a lot of money and the vast majority of it is coming from the pockets of boosters.

“I think the basic concept there is (Seminoles Boosters) will have input,” Coburn told The Athletic in July. “They’ve always had input, but they’ve kind of been on the outside looking in the door or looking in the window, whereas now they’ll be inside giving input. But those basic decisions are still going to be made by the president and the athletic director.”

...

Florida State sold fewer than 25,000 of its 40,000 available main bowl season-ticket seats and under 3,000 of its 6,000 Championship Club season-ticket seats. Main bowl season tickets range between $199 and $330 and Champions Club season tickets cost $2,750 per year. As a result of the declining sales of each, the FSUAA was missing out on eight digits of potential revenue.

Overall attendance for games also was dropping. Florida State had an averaged announced attendance of just 67,677 in 2018. The actual number of tickets scanned at the gate was just 41,599, figures provided to The Athletic showed. In addition to less money from ticket sales, dropping attendance means less revenue from concessions sales and more. Seminoles Boosters, which receives a minimum donation for every season ticket sold, also felt the hurt.
