So... we are all done from a perspective of signing who we anticipated to sign. No sudden decommits (which would be considered good news from Houston). Still hoping for a surprise or two.

Sounds like, post-Malzahn firing, Trevin Wallace is postponing his decision until February to see who is hired and whether the LB coach is retained. While he has dropped BC from consideration, it should be noted that one of his main recruiters at Auburn was JB3... who may need a job if anyone knows of a team who could use an OL coach familiar with zone blocking schemes.

I'm going to guess the historic hit rate on trying to recruit kids from Nebraska to BC is low

I'd be willing to bet the hit rate is 0% for ones who also hold Nebraska offers. I'll let bceagles24 confirm that...

Yeah I’m pretty sure I can confirm that.....however they came relatively close this year with top 100 CB Avante Dickerson they finished top 5 and Nebraska writers were actually saying bc was the school to watch. He loves Haf ended up committed to Minnesota without ever seeing campus so could still be one to watch.

dickerson is #2 CB on ESPN, decided not to sign w minnesota today

hafley was just on espn saying they have room for more and are going to keep adding into feb signing period and via transfer portal

Good for Hafley. Always found it weird how we would stop all recruiting efforts in early August.

Do transfers (in or out I guess) count against the 25 per class cap in any way?

Interesting that coaches focused on recruiting positions instead of areas of the country which makes sense since it is all Zoom anyway.

Hafley put the Merrymen in a logic box for passing on a highstar recruit because he wasn't a good fit.

Transfers out count towards total but not to a class period.

Incoming transfers count towards a class. Early enrollees or midyear transfers can count towards a prior class or current class, so there is always some wiggle room.

That may be true but this was probably scheduled in advance. Also, the December signing period ends Friday.

That can't be the case in COVID. Schiano had something north of 20 kids into the program. That's partly why he was able to win multiple games in the B10 for the first time in Program history (after going 3 years without one).

Transfers do not count toward the 25... The 25 number is reserved for what they call "initial counters" or first year players.
They count toward the 85.

15.02.3 Counter. A "counter" is an individual who is receiving institutional financial aid that is countable against the aid limitations in a sport.

15.02.3.1 Initial Counter. [FBS/FCS] An "initial counter" is a counter who is receiving countable financial aid in a sport for the first time. (See Bylaw 15.5.6.3 in football for instances in which the institution is permitted to defer the counting of such financial aid until the following academic year.)

15.5.6.1 Bowl Subdivision Football. [FBS] There shall be an annual limit of 25 on the number of initial counters (per Bylaw 15.02.3.1) and an annual limit of 85 on the total number of counters (including initial counters) in football at each institution. (Revised: 1/10/91 effective 8/1/92, 12/15/06)

15.5.6.3 Initial Counters -- Football (Also see Bylaw 15.02.3.1). [FBS/FCS]

15.5.6.3.1 Recruited Student-Athlete Entering in Fall Term, Aided in First Year. [FBS/FCS] A student- athlete recruited (see Bylaw 15.02.9) by the awarding institution who enters in the fall term and receives institutional financial aid (based in any degree on athletics ability) during the first academic year of residence shall be an initial counter for that year in football. Therefore, such aid shall not be awarded if the institution has reached its limit on the number of initial counters prior to the award of institutional financial aid to the student-athlete. (Revised: 1/15/11 effective 8/1/11)
15.5.6.3.2 Recruited Student-Athlete Entering After Fall Term, Aided in First Year. [FBS/FCS] A student- athlete recruited (per Bylaw 15.02.9) by the awarding institution who enters after the first term of the academic year and immediately receives institutional financial aid (based in any degree on athletics ability) shall be an initial counter for either the current academic year (if the institution's annual limit has not been reached) or the next academic year. The student-athlete shall be included in the institution's total counter limit during the academic year in which the aid was first received. (Revised: 1/15/11 effective 8/1/11)

15.5.6.3.2 is what allows early enrollees to count initial counters toward previous class.

I certainly don’t begrudge him that approach, but I think there’s something to be said about his knowing the school this well for this long and not feeling compelled to commit being a bad sign. Hopefully just being pessimistic.

Right. More that he hasn’t shown any affinity for BC. Maybe I’m just tired of these legacy kids going elsewhere (thanks Murphy and Boss families) but I have no expectation that he will sign with BC.

This. Shit, Barry Gallup Sr. sponges off of BC for years and yet “every boy’s dream” decided to go play at Notre Dame. It seems that BC has a problem with its football players looking at their relationship with the school as purely transactional. I get wanting your kid to leave the nest and not live in your shadow, but you’d think there’s be enough good feelings and affinity that at least a few of the higher profile legacies would end up here.

One thing I am amused by is how many of these kids fall on their faces. Obviously not the Bosellis, but the children of our most famous Night School graduate, Jay Murphy (and also one of the three biggest assholes to ever play at BC according to former teammates), all failed to live up to their hype and, if memory serves me correctly, ended up with pedestrian careers at lower profile schools then the ones they signed with amongst much hoopla and fanfare, and Kenyatta Watson 2 sure fell on his face at Texas and has slunk back to the 404 to play for possibly the worst team in P5 football at GA Tech.

I wonder how much of this was GDF feeling threatened by high profile alums in the orbit especially toward the end of his tenure. It seems like the younger guys who graduated after him have a warmer relationship with the school. Winning back former players was clearly a priority of MJ and it seems like that will continue under Kraft.

I don't get worked up about the alum kids. Other than Bosa, must have been busts. Bosa didn't come because of Spaz and that was the right call.

I didn't go where my parents went to school. Jerry York didn't make his kids play for him at Bowling Green or BC. Let the kid do what he wants.
