twballgame9 {l Wrote}:Recruiting rankings are always dumb. BC might land one 4 star over a UF or Alabama, etc. But if 6 guys originally destined to become 4 stars all chose BC, the basement weirdos are automatically going to assume they were wrong in their assessment. The assumed destination drives the rating, particularly when you get down to the level in the ranking where BC is traditionally looking, and the basement dwellers have watched the same grainy tape on Hudl that we all watch.

If BC lands guys in the top 200 on any of these lists, fine, they are probably very good. But they also will have multiple offers from big time schools, which is why they are ranked that high. After 200, blind darts from the basement means nothing.

Essentially, recruiting rankings are significantly more biased and skewed than coronavirus stats.

As it should be but you are the one who made the comparison of classes all being around 60th when the fact of the matter is a bunch of Daz’s classes didn’t have a majority of players with other P5 offers. Hence the pointing out that rankings mean nothing this cycle.

If you think this class is materially different than the ones we've had before, then more power to you. Looks about the same to me.

P5 Offers for commits:
2014: 14/28
2015: 14/25
2016: 11/19
2017: 12/21
2018: 10/20
2019: 16/19
2020: 12/13
2021: 15/17

Yeah I’d say it’s pretty different considering they’ve already got more commits with P5 offers, and a lot more coming, then any of the classes in 14-18 in a smaller class.

I completely reject the chosen metric as valid, but I'll play along. This information either tells me that Addazio got significantly better at recruiting in his lame duck years, after losing his strongest recruiting assistants (Washington, Day, Brown), and despite the eye test telling me something very different - OR it tells me that somewhere around 2018 the recruiting sites got better at using social media to track down the offer lists of the types of kids who end up at BC. I have a feeling it's the second.

His recruiting did get better which interesting enough, or not if you pay attention, coincides with the news and subsequent building of the IPF. As for the tracking of the offers I’ve been following recruiting and covered it for years it’s not any easier or more difficult as it was for those classes that’s just not a relevant factor. Fact of the matter if the recruiting did get better on paper in the later classes and Hafley has took it up another notch on top of that.

The DMV recruiting is very impressive. Doubt BC lands this kid, but there's a ton of football talent down there.

Great to see us have so much early success down there, but it would be nice to hear a little more buzz about some of the other recruiters/territories. Seems like everything is down there.

Apparently down two BC and Michigan for Daymon David ...

https://gbmwolverine.com/2020/08/17/michigan-football-tidbits-2021-db-recruit-daymon-david/

Latest buzz with Michigan and Daymon David

In other news, Michigan seems to be in a stronger position than before with three-star safety recruit Daymon David.

David is a low-ranking three-star recruit, sort of like Hairston. He’s from Reisterstown, Maryland and ranks 1,143 overall in 2021 according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

But David doesn’t play to his ranking. He’s actually much better and at some point, he will likely get a bump. He is a tremendous hitter and he has turned into a priority for the Wolverines.

For a while, David was considered an Oklahoma lean. But the Sooners aren’t known for turning out NFL defensive backs, so you always felt like Michigan was going to have a chance.

And now, according to a report from Boston College reporter Tyler Calvaruso of Eagles Insider ($), the Sooners have moved David down their board, meaning it could be down to BC and Michigan. Here’s an excerpt of what he wrote:

“I’m hearing that Daymon David is dropping down Oklahoma’s board, as the Sooners are prioritizing Jardin Gilbert. From what I have been told, this leaves Boston College and Michigan as the two top contenders and the two fighting the hardest to land David. David and Michigan have been in contact basically every day and it’s clear that he is a priority recruit for them at this point in the cycle.”
It felt like it was down to the Sooners and Wolverines and if Oklahoma really is prioritizing others at the safety position, then you’d have to consider U-M the favorite to land David.

That last sentence is pure arrogance and showing they don’t have a clue. It’s been Oklahoma and BC leading for months now with Michigan making a late offer and trying to make up ground. Could he end up at Michigan? Sure but right now with Oklahoma having another safety higher on the board, and who they are in good shape with, BC is leading this race. Don’t think he’s super close to decision though.

He actually was a Zona commit. He decommitted earlier this week. Sounds like they were expecting him to grow into a hybrid OLB.

Batson kid must be smart that’s pretty impressive.

The defense needs the talent influx I was pretty horrified at the lack of athleticism at points last year. El Attrach and Palmer were clueless back there, but they also lacked the closing speed to make a play.

Hes from same HS as Chase Rettig and it looks like there is some connection to Will Blackmon (per twitter) ... not sure if he does private coaching with Baston or he knows him from the area (I think Blackmon might be connected to Bosco out there in some way).
