I would do a modified version of college rules: both teams get possession from their own 20.
I think the patriots would have won either way but it would have been fun to see Brady and Mahomes go at it.
KC defense was terrible; oh, and gronk is a man among boys.

Don't let up a TD. That seems reasonable enough.

certainly seemed like the patriots d would stop mahomes going the other way if the chiefs won the toss. especially as this league moves towards pinball football the coin toss becomes the most important play in ot

but fixing the ot rules is the least of the nfl's problems right now

If you give both teams a possession the second team has an advantage because they can work it over four downs and figure out what you need to get.

If Chiefs had won in OT in similar fashion, the national pundits wouldn't be crying about Brady not getting his chance. People are just so tired of seeing the Patriots win all the time.

The OT rules are fine. Stop Brady on one of those 3rd and longs. Make a play. Seahawks were going to win the Super Bowl and then Malcolm Butler made a play because the Pats practiced that route over and over in practice leading up to the Super Bowl.

Supahfan99 {l Wrote}:Understand that the PI miss was really bad but:

1. Brees was ghastly in the 4th quarter, made a lot of bad throws and it looked like he would get away with it.

2. Payton absolutely shit himself after they set themselves up in FG range with the long pass completion right before the PI. A shitty pass play on first down that went incomplete is where this game went awry for the 'Aints. What could go wrong? It was a bad play, a low throw, went incomplete and saved the Rams a timeout. At that point you just changed how you approach 2nd and 3rd down and you're letting a stupid decision dictate the rest of the series. You end up in 3rd down, sure you have a missed PI but a scary play, easily could have been picked off. Not sure if that was a bad throw by Brees or a bad play call. Gotta go with a back shoulder throw where there is a low risk for a pick.

The 'Aints simply had no idea how to close out that game and it cost them the NFC Championship. Felt like I was watched Daz on the sideline.

Officiating was also bad this weekend. Amazing how many ODD plays happen and put the refs in this position. A lot of crazy stuff. How about the offsides for KC that negated basically a killer INT?

I’m not certain of the veracity of the stat because that boob Jim Nantz came up with it, but the Pats had 5 PI penalties all season then had 4 last night. That poor kid JC Jackson got called every time he breathed on someone.

Not an obvious example of poor officiating compared to the more obvious whiffs, but another example of knee-jerk reaction of bad refs. I felt like anytime Mahomes chucked it downfield it would either be a completion or a flag.

Josh McDaniels has been stealing money. To the tune of 3 straight Super Bowls - driven by the offense. But great take.

Im sure he'll be a great head coach when he gets a chance.

Which is a wholly irrelevant to the topic at hand.

Ok, cool.

Plenty of interesting points in this thread, along with some dumb ideas, but have you considered hey guess what fuck the fucking Patriots in the ear. Stan Kroenke is a sleazy criminal and so ashamed of himself he thinks it's better to wear an only recently dead marmot on his head than to just go about his business being visibly bald, and I hope the Rams win by 15 touchdowns.

Sunday Pats vs. Rams. Key for the Pats imho is to control the Rams Suh and Donald. Do that and they have a good chance of winning. Unsung hero for the Pats if they are to win is James Develin. He hopefully will assist in alleviating the Rams defensive pressure by picking up Suh and Donald and others. Going out on a limb and stating Develin will score a TD.

Pats have best pass blocking interior line in football. Neither defense is relevant.

Last night's game was extremely fun for the person who had the 3-3 "square" in your office pool.

That game made me sick. The Rams offense was pathetic. Dive left, dive right, play action and lob one somewhere down the field(or take a 10 yard sack). What happened to the great offensive mind on the Rams sideline?

8 of their last 9 appearances were edge of your seat games. A few of which could be considered top.5 most exciting Superbowls. Last night's game was shitty by Pat's SB standards, but as a fan all I really care about is the W. Considering everyone outside of New England is sick and tired of the Pat's and their success, and there aren't any real LA Rams fans, this game and mostly the result were a huge disappointment to the rest of the country.

And TV ratings. It was one of the least watched Super Bowls ever.

That is what the NFL should be worried about. That and the NFL refs being NBA-like in their ability to control the game. It hasn’t been a storyline, but after the ridiculous penalty for a legal hit on Burkhead, they completely swallowed their whistles. It’s what led to the sloppy game as DBs were able to clutch and grab like they were running Jacques Lemaire’s Neutral Zone Trap.

The NFL was worried about ratings. And then ratings were amazing pretty much all year.
