A real extension or a faux one with a next to nothing buyout?

The next several years are going to be very good years around here. There is no need to panic.

To The Boston College Community:

After every season we evaluate all aspects of our programs to make sure they are aligned with the core mission and principles of the Boston College athletics department.

While all of us wish our regular season in football had ended with more victories, we took important steps in the right direction this year: returning to the national rankings for the first time since 2008, capturing the nation's attention with ESPN's College GameDay on-campus, being in the running for the conference championship in November and playing in another post-season bowl.

In addition, our football student-athletes remain great ambassadors for our University and also continue to achieve tremendous success in the classroom, graduate at one of the highest rates in the country, and become successful leaders.

To continue building on our football program's progress and promise, we are extending Coach Steve Addazio's contract for two additional years through the 2022 season. Steve and I are committed to taking the next steps to enhance competitive excellence in Boston College football.

We look forward to your continued support of our program.

We Are BC!

Martin

This is a paper extension. Fairly certain the admin wouldn't let them eat 5+ million to fire Daz, so he will be coaching 19. Buyout on this is minimal as I understand it and he's coaching for his job in 2019. That said, #nevertoexcel probably means 7-5 gets another extension.

will the last one here please turn out the lights. i can't find a way that i could possibly give a fuck about boston college football right now.

enjoy your weener free threads and lack of homoerotic double entendres. the coach, this athletic director and this entire program don't deserve them.

eat a big bag of catsup covered dicks.

an extension with a small buyout just means "we want to make it as easy as possible to get rid of you". so why keep him?

I would say in Jarmond's defense, that he sounds like he's reading a hostage statement in that message. It is the least enthusiastic extension statement you'll ever read. Nothing about believing in Coach Addazio's ability to take the program to the next level or anything.

Read the hiring of the women's basketball coach statement in comparison. Clearly he doesn't want to be doing this. That said he has to take the heat, he's the one making the statement.

Maybe leahy will be gone the next time we're looking for a coach and we can do a real search. That's the only bright side I see

Don't worry, I'm sure year 7 of the 5 year plan is the REAL breakthrough year.

This extension means nothing, unless you were expecting him to ride his Vespa off into the sunset today.

Please respect IB. He was almost a veteran.

This is a real extension just like every BC extension. Daz is their guy, winning seasons and minor bowls and no off field problems are the goals. Mouse never stated that winning the ACC is the goal, it’s not. I’m hearing that the extension came with a raise to 3 million per year. Again, this is not surprising given how college athletics operates. Anyone holding onto fantasies of some cheap buyout is doing a sales job on themselves.

Stick to hockey BC

Go Eagles!

They could have filled the corners and hired all failed former UMass coaches for that money!

I’ll largely go along with this—with the exception of him getting a raise to $3 million (that most certainly did not happen). Jarmond has been knee capped by our prissy, sports-hating, light-in-the-loafers Theo McCartick of a School
President. He can talk a good game, but Leahy and his gang of morons are calling the shots and honestly, they are ecstatic with going 7-5/7-6/-8-5, as they think that is the best that can be done under our business model. Anyway, the Jesuit order is a festering vipers best of America-haters and pederasts and success in something as uniquely American as college football is something that makes scum like James Martin, S.J. and the rest of the not-so-celibate queers at America Magazine (with whom Leahy is a fellow traveler) angry. Short of concerned alums importing an El Salvadoran counter insurgency team trained at the School of the Americas to give the Jesuits what they deserve, BC football ain’t getting better.

All one has to do to understand the import of the football program at BC is read the "goals" or "milestones" Jarmond documents that warranted this extension of this barely successful coach in the field of competition:

Brief Midseason appearance in a meaningless poll; a television show justified by the aforementioned fake poll (but of course, the name recognition of the opponent); the character of the individuals in the program, appearance in a bowl, any bowl.....noticed he missed the opportunity to discuss graduation rates.....

So this is what is expected of successful coach at BC. this is what justifies a contract extension. Notice of the absence of competitive criteria vis a vis their opponents on the field of play. No division leadership, nor conference championship, no meaningful post season goal like perrennial top 25 in poll.....can't even tout Addazio's historical winning percentage among BC coaches ( for obvious reasons).

This extension is a waste of time. We will be in the same spot a year from now. My guess is Daz gets fired and we hire Schiano.

i forget who has said it (probably moj)...but honestly, at this point, i think we could do a lot worse than greg schiano

the fact that i will have to burn another fall barely interested in bc football (which is going on a decade at this point) is incredibly frustrating
