was at Rice as well for a long time before BC....wonder why he was out or wanted out of Texas

That was a lightning fast turnaround. Seems that McLafferty must've loved working with the kids at BC. Daz thought highly of him as he seems to be his first call. Ultimately, this is probably a decent save.

If you can get the Assistant S&C at Texas you can be in charge here.

You might be able to make a case that the S&C coach is, at this moment, more important/an immediate need going into the offseason than an OC because of the contact he is allowed to have with the team (which I believe the coaching staff can not have), thus the quick hire. Its a very under appreciated role that has a ton of exposure to kids when NCAA rules restrict staff interaction and practice time.

we have an oc

never heard of the guy, but seems like a good hire. OC for CMU, Cincy, & Tenn, from River Vale, NJ

After losing Scot Loeffler to a head-coaching job in November, Boston College has found its next offensive coordinator.

Sources told Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel that Mike Bajakian, most recently of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is expected to be named Steve Addazio’s new offensive coordinator at BC. Bajakian served as Tampa Bay’s quarterbacks coach for the last four seasons, first under Lovie Smith and then on Dirk Koetter’s staff.

Bajakian was not retained by new Bucs head coach Bruce Arians, so he is making the move back to the college ranks, where he has plenty of experience. Bajakian was the offensive coordinator for Butch Jones at Central Michigan, Cincinnati and Tennessee. Bajakian left UT for the NFL after the 2014 season.

At Boston College, Bajakian inherits a unit that finished 38th in the country in scoring offense (32 points per game) and 67th in total offense (404.3 yards per game). He replaces Loeffler, who landed the head-coaching job at Bowling Green after three seasons on Addazio’s staff. Bajakian, a New Jersey native, also brings key recruiting connections that BC lost following the departure of BC Anthony Campanile to Michigan.

In 2019, the Eagles return star running back A.J. Dillon. Dillon rushed for 1,589 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2017 as a true freshman and followed it up with 1,108 yards and 10 scores in an injury-plagued 2018 campaign. BC also returns starting quarterback Anthony Brown and leading receiver Kobay White.

Bajakian’s hire comes at a critical time for Addazio. The 2018 season had the looks of a potential breakthrough for his program. The Eagles were 7-2 and ranked No. 17 entering a No. 10 home matchup with No. 2 Clemson, but that was the first of three straight losses to close out the regular season.

Boston College was set to play Boise State in the First Responder Bowl, but the game was canceled midway through the first quarter due to weather.

Addazio has won seven games in five of his six seasons in Chestnut Hill. The other season was a 3-9 effort in 2015

some historical background here....

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/coach ... -bajakian/

he was getting some publicity as a potential candidate for the Dallas Cowboy's OC job just last month...

https://sportdfw.com/2018/11/30/dallas- ... e-linehan/

his college offenses primarily ran the spread it appears, so at the very least this guy is not a pound the rock disciple.

but will we still see two TE formations on 3rd and long when down by more than a TE in the 4th quarter???

This is a marriage of convenience. Bergen Catholic/Williams guy who was Butch Jones’ OC through his many stops. That’s better than anyone could’ve hoped for a coach likely entering his final year. However, it doesn’t look like they’ve worked together before. Last time we hired an OC like that, he had to leave mid season due to health concerns.

We have recruited one TE in last two classes so I wouldn’t be shocked if they have already moved on internally from TE heavy formations. Also, if there is truth to Daz wanting to implement schemes similar to the Rams, McVay runs 11 personnel like 96% of the time.

Good hire if this team is going to run Butch Jones' offense and not Steve Addazio's

Nice hire on paper. Remains to be seen if Daz trusts him or can work with him, but a very solid resume.

Do we have enough WR to run a spread?
