It was surprising how quickly things fell apart for him. Outside of his first season at Arkansas, his CFB teams have never won less than 8 games in a season.

Firing a guy for one bad season seems like a mistake.

I believe that buyout was $15 mil

Can’t confirm at this point, but was told Petrino had another moral terpitude issue going on and that may be a pretext for a firing without paying the buyout. Also think Louisville is looking to get Brohm and if they don’t act now he is moving on from Purdue at the end of the year to a place where Louisville would not be a clear step up.

I don't think this is that bad of a move.

They want Brohm, and they need to strike now if they do want him. The players have completely quit on him, so this doesn't seem like it would even be a one season blip because he would need to clear out a ton of the team to start rebuilding. If he's done something shady enough to avoid the buyout, even better for them.

There may be some legs to that, since coaches ( including a son and son-in-law, I think I read), and the director of football operations all swept out. Looks like a real cleansing ahead of the whole story.

The shitty FB record gave Louisville an opportunity to rid themselves of the final piece of the Jurich/Pitino/Petrino triumvirate without too much blowback about the buyout.

15 million is a lot of money now that the Papa John's well has run dry.

I'll speculate a booster with deep pockets that has ties to the horse racing industry is writing the check.

In my experience, bluegrass horse racing types tend to be UK fans even though UL has a better equine science and management program.
