I had the pleasure of dealing with an unhinged Ohio State fan on twitter today.

I was in Morgantown last weekend and to my surprise, WVU fans were generally nice to KSU fans, granted the big win probably had something to do with it.

The way they went after my lady friend of the time when we went to the Maryland game where we lost with Matt Ryan was unbelievable and for me hands down the clincher for worst football fans ever. She wasn’t even really a BC football fan. She was just with me and wearing a BC jersey. The hateful, disgusting things that they said to her were cringe worthy. Notre Dame - Insufferable jackasses.
Consolation: about 50% of the male Notre Dame grads I know have had their wives banged by other dudes. I am repeating this statistic to myself 'theres no place like home Auntie Em' every time I meet a new cardboard cutout of a Notre Dame grad.

Maryland - The single aspect of UMD fandom that unites generations of Terps fans is acting like an asshole to one opponent or the other. To stay comprehensive, Terps fans act like assholes to everyone. This is mostly centered around Dukies, but just in case, the UMD fans extent it everywhere. Shitty gameday experience, lousy teams, little history, soulless stadium surrounded by PG county. Eff this place.
Consolation: Is this even necessary? Most of these fans are going to be employees of the New Jersey apparatus - school administrators, running cash-only landscaping companies in Cherry Hill, etc

Virginia Tech - These guys are here because I encounter so damn many of them. VT is like Pittsburgh in the sense that they both just shit out a continuous wave of loud-mouthed humanity raving about how awesome they are at everything. Their athletic gear seems to have been manufactured for people who are both short-sighted and colorblind, and so the VT or the turkey must be placed IN GIGANTIC FUCKING BILLBOARD SIZED SPLASHES.
Consolation: LANE STADIUM WAS AWESOME IN HIGH SCHOOL. I talk about that game every time I meet a VT alum.

Michigan - like Notre Dame except there's dried barf on the fronts of their shirts. No idea how frequently their wives are penetrated by physical trainers and pool boys.
Consolation: It seems to always end in heartbreak for these jerks, and when it does, they are still in the middle of FUCKING MICHIGAN. The only way out is ... through Det-wah? It's like Baltimore blown up to IB size.

Arkansas - this may seem like a strange choice here but I have had more years of experience than I care to with the toothless swamp people of the state that neither the midwest nor the south wanted. It helps that they've not really done anything athletically. You know they had a bunch of frat boys get in trouble for killing a goat on film a few years ago? I'm sure that wasn't the worst thing done to the goat.
Consolation: ARKANSAS. Aside from the northwest corner of the state, including Fayetteville (which isn't actually a terrible town) and the Ozarks, this is the most bleak and depressing place you have ever seen. Triply so during a drought, where even the angel of death requires therapy for having to pluck souls from the meth fumes when the state is crippled by a lack of water. Dear Jesus, please let True Detective Season 3 show this place in all its terrible glory.

USC - its like a Michigan fan impregnated a ND subway alum from Woonsocket wearing a Yankees cap, Dallas Cowboys starter jacket, and Chicago Bulls mesh shorts, then won the lottery and got a Bravo tv show. These people are the fucking worst.
Consolation: Requires patience - the aging process hits this bunch HARD. Much harder than other people. If you have the patience, there are few things as spectacular as a USC fan confronting their own inevitable crashing spiral towards mortality and then throwing everything away in increasingly desperate grasps for meaning in a life that has otherwise been entirely characterized by vapid pursuits and tasteless superficiality.

Solely because a handful of times in their history, a BC team turned some other team's otherwise discrete fart into a three-alarm tropical underpants emergency, hanging their entire history of a handful of upsets of more storied teams with real athletic histories. The athletic department is clownshoes, the gameday experience only works if you bring Microwaves instead of Weber kettles, and the onfield product is like stepping in dogshit because you were trying to avoid some other pile of dogshit.

This changes a lot with the fortunes of various programs. 10 years ago I def would have said WVU, UConn, Rutgers because of all the tension surrounding re-alignment. They're not on my radar now.

Ohio State fans are consistently terrible. They are incorrigible and respond to criticism by deflecting. Ohioans who don't get into tOSU and end up at Kent State, Miami of Ohio, etc will root against their own school when they play the Bucks. I understand why, but I still think it makes them assholes. They are the absolute worst, in my opinion.

Maryland fans are pricks.

I never minded Ped State fans much, but ever since they managed to turn themselves into the victims of the Sandusky thing, I think the majority of them are trash.

The Southie ND fans are horrendous, but I've personally met a lot more ND alumni than "subway fans," and they have all been pretty normal. They don't bother me.

I'm sure there are shitty fanbases in the SEC, but I haven't been exposed to any SEC fans long enough to make a judgement.

None of the PAC-12 fanbases bother me because I consider them all frauds and I don't take them seriously.

As far as the ACC goes, I think Louisville and UVA are the worst.

In my 2 trips to South Bend haven't experienced hostile treatment by ND fans. Went to the November 20, 1999 game a 31–29 BC win. After the game there was one obnoxious ND fan shouting at us to sit down while we BC fans we celebrating an exciting victory, and this was after the game ended. 1 out of 80K in the stadium is not bad.

My most lasting memory was vs Rutgers. It was back in the '80's vs. Glen Foley. Rutgers had a touted transfer QB from Miami and they were getting some preseason love in some quarters that they were a bowl team. I remember the game at Alumni was well attended with a large, boisterous and crude chanting Rutgers section in the north endzone. The Rutgers QB'S family was sitting directly behind me in the stands. I recall chatting with them at halftime, and remarked that there was a whole lot of pressure on their son to be the savior of the program, as a lot of press suggested. I recall that they thought that there was no pressure at all, given that their son was the real deal. (P.S. That was the game that Foley suggested that the only bowl Rutgers was going to was the one he was just using in the locker room, or words to that effect).
