BC should not play that team. Ever. It's too low of a level, everyone was watching every play hoping the tiny kids in purple didn't get hurt. We got lucky. It was uncomfortable to watch until Fadule was the running back, and even then.

And the novelty is over, to the extent anyone bought that happy horseshit

My opinion, Brown needs work, regardless of opponent. He hasn't had a full season. Brotherhood sportsmanship and all considered, at least play real football for a half, then play audition football. Yeah, take Dillon out, play some other linemen, but leave in Brown to get some work. You left 1st D in for a half, why not the offense.

This game demonstrated that nondescript Division 2 cupcakes shouldn't be played except as a later season "off week" on the schedule. Going into week 3 BC hasn't faced any meaningful competition, and I question whether there's alot positive to be derived from it. Thankfully, its Wake, and not Clemson or VT next.

UMass has been competitive against the SEC teams it's played over the last 2-3 years. I think that 48-7 halftime lead is more impressive than people realize. Even Holy Cross only lost to UConn 27-20 last year. Are you complaining about BC being dominant? The schedule gradually gets harder and there is no reason why BC shouldn't be ready for Wake, Purdue and Temple after these two routs.

No I' m not complaining about BC being "dominant", I 'm pointing out simply that this game may have been less meaningful than an off week scrimmage between the 1st O and 1st D would have been. a "game" in which the offense was on the field for 12 plays doesn't do much to provide meaningful preparation for the future schedule. And why this " keep your powder dry" approach? Because it was Holy Cross. Given the same first quarter results against a cellar dwelling FCS team or a MAC also ran, would the starters been pulled after 12 plays? My point was, this "game" was less than useful because of the ridiculous scheduling of this opponent, and because the opponent was HC, we didn't play the game.

The starting offense hasn't played a full game yet. These two games have done nothing to improve BC's standing in the polls, that seem to be the end all among some. If standing in the polls really are the yardstick, then BC better start scheduling someone else. But this is the kind of schedule Addazio wanted to fuel his survival. HC wasn't put on the schedule 10 years ago.

The arguments in this thread are being conflated. Some are arguing that playing HC is better than playing other FCS schools. Others, in response, are saying it’s stupid to play HC because they are FCS.

In a world where Bama plays the likes of Savannah St, I’m fine with HC showing up on the schedule and would even be fine with their presence being more frequent than that of UNH, Maine or URI.

Btw, to our friend sader, these games aren’t meant to be competitive. They are meant to be what they were today... an easy win where no one got hurt and young kids saw a good amount of reps. If this series ever gets competitive, it ends.

There are different levels of fcs in terms of athletes. Holy Cross is on the wrong end. Play URI if you want FCS. Or just play UConn and UMass.

Exactly. Not all FCS teams are equal, AND, because of who this particular FCS opponent was, the "game" was managed differently, inhibiting the development of BC, in my opinion. Had BC proven flawless execution in 4 real games leading up to this fiasco, then pulling starters so early makes sense. I haven't check ed the box score, but I don't think Alabama or others at the top of the food chain pulled starters after 12 plays, in their routs, and they have much less to prove in a game than BC.

Bottom line: My fundamental bitch is with Addazio's management (and he alluded to it himself) that he pulled starters too soon given where this team is developmentally.

BC’s scheduling formula is: 1 Big 5 conference, 1 FCS and 2 mid-majors. That has been our formula since going to 12 (exception being 3 mid-majors last year and 2 FCS schools in 2015). It is essentially the same scheduling formula we’ve had since Henning was forced to run a gauntlet meant for Coughlin. It is essentially the same scheduling formula of most every Big 5 conference team. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

Since this seems to be unnecessarily difficult to understand, FCS schools vary greatly and Holy Cross is on the wrong end of the spectrum to be in the mix. That end of FCS is closer to DIII than it is to the ACC. In football, that means a large size discrepancy and uncomfortable football.

Play Villanova or others from the Colonial. Don't play Holy Cross.

It's ok to say Holy Cross is an FCS game we should schedule.

It's stupid to say what the Holy Cross person here seems to be saying, which is: the path to making BC and college football more relevant regionally lies in tickling the nostalgia of the whalepants generation.

When the ACC schedules a conference game on a short week, I have no problem having an FCS game the weekend before. If Holy Cross continues to draw 41,000 for a glorified scrimmage, then why the take them off the schedule, Bryant would have had UMass like attendance figures, so that's an added benefit, and BC will never play in the high school stadium that is the Holy Cross field. This is the end of BC's preseason, let the real season begin on Thursday!

No problem with playing HC. Better than UCONN. And if it packs the stadium even better.

We got an easy win that counted where our backups got meaningful action for almost the entire game. With this new 4 game rule, it’s imperative we use that to our maximum advantage. There was no reason for the starters to play more than the 12 plays. Who gives a shit that our starters have barely played yet? We’ve got ten games left... 3 of which are warmups for the other 7 that matter. This is a perfect scenario for this team to be successful later in the season.

Fuck all this “we are what we are” negativity. It reeks of whalepants bitching because they don’t get to watch good or popular opponents. “But I want to tailgate and then watch ND”. Fuck that. I want this team succeed during ACC play and we are setup perfectly for it. 2-0, no injuries, ranked just outside the top 25 at worst and even possibly in it. Now 3 real winnable games before the herat of the schedule. You literally could not have drawn up a better start for the year.

I felt that way at the beginning of the game... the first two kickoffs definitely had that feel to it.
But after that, I actually thought Holy Cross did reasonably well (14 points on 194 yards) considering the serious disadvantages inherent in the match up.
I think it's too early to rule out playing them based on one game.

Nobody cares. It was an easy game vs. an easy opponent, and our team didn't get injured.

People who rank teams don't care whether it's 50-0 against UMass, UConn, or Holy Cross. They don't know the difference.

So the only concern is that Holy Cross looked like they might get injured. Boohoo.

Our starters didn't play enough? ummm ok. If they can't beat Wake without two full four quarter games beforehand, our team sucks anyways.

Just a few fans looking for something to complain about. Shut up. It was an easy win against an overmatched team. Again, nobody cares.

Last post and I'm outta here, promise.

We'll never have the type of talent that BC does but this is about as young/inexperienced we've been since we brought scholarships back 5 years ago. Recruiting for next year already looks very promising, with improvement under Coach Chesney, continued solid recruiting etc etc the hope is that HC will return to the top tier of the FCS-level with the likes of Villanova, James Madison, Richmond et. al. It's just going to take time obviously.

We should have fired our former head coach 3 or 4 years ago when yesterday's game was scheduled (along with both Navy and Syracuse in 2019)...this would have given the new coaching staff time to get ready for these types of games at a program-level....alas, he was kept on and now we're basically starting from square one this year...which obviously wasn't/isn't optimal.

I think you'll see a much better HC team in 2020...obviously still ovar-matched but not as egregiously so as it was this year.

Good luck the rest of the season.

The game was atrocious. I was in Boston for other business on Friday and dragged a friend to the game. It's a 5 hour drive for me one way to Boston and I still had zero interest in staying by the 2nd quarter. The crowd on campus before the game was lively, but the BC tailgating experience should not depend on the opponent's fans. It should be BC fans who make the experience fun. That it took HC fans to bring life to campus is an indictment on us.

The crowd on campus before the game was lively, but the BC tailgating experience should not depend on the opponent's fans. It should be BC fans who make the experience fun. That it took HC fans to bring life to campus is an indictment on us.

This. Guess I'm not in the minority about losing ground playing high school teams. Sad, BC used to be better.

I’m also in this camp and will ban* anyone that disagrees.

*i will not really ban you, but seriously... think about your life choices
