What was bolded was the most important thing you said. Your "drivel" was all downhill from here.

twballgame9 {l Wrote}:Whether they get better depends on whether they can replace the corners and whether Brown can increase his accuracy to an acceptable level and stay healthy. If those two things happen, in a vacuum (and no space's drivel notwithstanding) this is the best and most talented team in the division after Clemson.

Addazio is starting his 6th recruiting class. In his 5th class, he finally recruited a player that the Baby Rapists wanted. Still, his class was ranked dead last in the ACC as it usually is. A J Dillon didn't change that fact. This team is not talented.

BC may have the second best team in the Atlantic but they are NOT the second most talented team in the Atlantic. They are just the oldest team in the Atlantic. No team in the ACC (either division) has so many returning starters (which was Phil Steele's main point to rank them as high as he did.) No team in the ACC has so many players in their early 20s. They are BYU without the missionary work. This is a team of very young men playing a game against teams filled with grown boys. BC's young men are not as talented or athletic as the grown boys they will be playing, but they are still men playing boys.

You could be a 5-star super athlete at defensive end, you are still going to struggle at defensive end if you are a redshirt frosh, only 19, and the 2-star offensive tackle blocking you is 22 years old with 24 starts under his belt. 2 or 3 years of age and experience means everything in college football from strength, bone structure, and an experience standpoint. It is the great "equalizer." This is especially true for linemen more than any other position (which Teddy correctly pointed out, kudos to him.)

twballgame9 {l Wrote}:To paraphrase Dan Patrick it's too bad they don't play games in a vacuum. [insert Tigers in space meme here]. There is simply no overlooking the coaching deficiency. The only hope to avoid a loss or two on the coaches is that they come out and punch every team in the mouth so hard with the run game that most games look like FSU last season - over early. But it will only matter in a game or two. They should win 7 or 8 at least, even with this coach.

We are allies in wanting this coach gone. I have wanted him gone for a couple years now, maybe not for the exact reasons you want him gone. If the AD gives Addazio any kind of a contract extension, then I will want the AD gone. With the 4 OOC games on this schedule, winning 7 does nothing for me. But given the "deficiency" winning 7 is probably to be expected, unfortunately. And even if it is expected, I'll still be disappointed.

Stay in your lane, the pre-season belief that this is Addazio's best team because of your irrational belief in the overall improvement in talent isn't going to misinterpret itself.

Re: 2018 Schedule

Postby innocentbystander on Wed Jun 27, 2018 3:16 pm

Teddy, lets get serious for just a moment. Actually, this is an exercise that ALL are welcome to participate.

Look at the best football teams that Boston College has fielded in recent memory:

  • 1993
  • 1999
  • 2002
  • 2005
  • 2007
  • 2014 *
  • 2018 **

* - see vast improvement vs USC and F$U one year to the next
** - we are assuming that they will be excellent

Got some pretty big gaps between those seasons, and in one case, a shallow gap. I'm looking at 4 different coaches with 4 completely different coaching styles. 3 of those teams had outstanding seasons, 2 had very good seasons, and 1 was just a mediocre season (but a team that was "in the game" vs the best teams in college football.) What do all those teams (IMHO, the 7 best teams BC has had in the last 30 years) have in common?

If you answer that one question I pose to you honestly, you'll start to understand that pure "talent" is not the path that BC has had to achieve overall success on the field. Certainly, there are some incredibly talented football teams there (the 2007 team being far and away the most talented) but not all of those teams succeeded because of their "talent." There were other teams in the last 30 years that may or may not have had more "talent" but weren't able to translate that into success. We are missing the elephant in the room when we focus on "talent."

Take your time Teddy. I don't think you will answer the question, certainly not honestly. I think you'll dodge it faster than a liberal journalist reporting from the border dodges the fact that the children of illegals were separated from their parents long before Trump was POTUS.

Addazio is a good recruiter. This team has talent. The coaching is questionable. IB totally tells the truth all the time (especially about his academy nominations), but his arguments here are muddled and dumb.

Either Addazio is bringing in a lot of talent and the recruiting services are really poor at evaluating anyone after the 200 guys going to the places where people read their rankings religiously, or he's coaching them up to be much better than their talent. One seems much more likely than the other.

It's certainly not age in a sport where the athletes can't be draft eligible until they have stayed three years. Or where BC started a freshman center, QB and RB last season.

Where is this "talent" of which you speak? I don't see it.

Are you counting how many guys that Addazio recruited that the NFL signed? Don't. A better measurement would be how many of them get drafted in an early round and remain in the NFL for more than a couple years. How many of Addazio's recruits were 1st round picks? 2nd round picks? 3rd round picks? Compare those draft numbers to the rest of the teams in the ACC to get an "objective" measurement.

twballgame9 {l Wrote}:It's certainly not age in a sport where the athletes can't be draft eligible until they have stayed three years. Or where BC started a freshman center, QB and RB last season.

Strawman.

Last year's team (2017) was NOT one of the 6 or 7 best BC teams in the last 30 years. This year's team (where those three frosh are now all sophomores) might be. We shall soon see. We both hope that it will be. And if it is that good, it is not because the 2018 team got so talented so suddenly. Nor will it be because of a sophomore center or a sophomore QB. Our QB will not be what Ryan was in 2005.

That frosh tailback we had last year could play for any team in college football. Addazio told him, you can do whatever you want, play immediately at any position, just sign. Brilliant. Addazio needs to do that more often. That will make him a much better recruiter. And maybe (given how much you guys are doting on this 2019 class) maybe Addazio is learning and improving? It remains to be seen if AJ Dillon winds up being a better running back than William Green.

And for the record Teddy, the 2007 team was probably the best BC team that has ever played NOT because Jagz started a 260 pound frosh at right tackle, but in spite of it. So stop with your mental masturbation, I don't want to see it.

The 2017 draft saw two guys from BC's 15 man 2013 class get drafted (Addazio's first partial class), Milano and Johnson. Each started a number of games for their respective teams in the NFL last season.

The 2018 draft saw three guys from Addazio's second class get drafted, Landry in the second, Yiadom in the fourth and Moore in the sixth. All are ikely to make the teams that drafted them, and Landry could be a star. Strachan is still a possibility to get drafted from that class, as is Sweeney, but each got a 5th year. Baker was tracking to be drafted at center before the injury, let's see where he ends up after this season.

The remaining 4 classes, 2015-2018 have yet to play 4 years and only 2015 had any draft eligible players. There are, however, a number of players that are likely to get drafted on the team right now, starting with Dillon, Allen and Ray, and probably multiple linemen.

I think this is the problem we may be facing this season, an incredible beginning following by a miserable second half. BC's season begins at Wake Forest and if they win there, we may have a false sense of hope.

Clemson's defensive line is a legitimate NFL defensive line, far and away the best defensive line in college football. Every single starter on that line would be on an NFL roster TODAY if they declared for the NFL. So right off the bat, Clemson might hold BC and AJ Dillon to 0 yards rushing and that is assuming that this year's offensive line for BC is the best line that Addazio has had since that incredible line in 2014. Now Miami, VPI, and an FSU team that BC dominated, they are not Clemson. But these are still teams who have recruits that more closely resemble what Clemson has than what BC has.

tClemson suggests a strong season for the BC Screaming Golden Eagles.

somewhere between 9-3 and 11-1

definitely a top 25 possibly top 15 top 10 team if all the breaks go your way. Good luck!

does the clemson know something about t.s. slaughter unexpectedly drowning in a catsup related activity, #metooing or losing his keys to the locker room and thereby losing his access to the games?

The HC alums are making quite a to do about this. My friend said the HC alums at Larchmont YC are planning a party bus there and back. Nearly every HC alum I talk to will be there.

This will be their Super Bowl and they will give us their best shot.
