I guess we have some good young lbers on the team but don't get it.

Dead coach walking. This really should not be a surprise. :ace

Here is my take...

1. As I have been saying all along, Daz is a good evaluator and recruiter. The latest poaching of players identified over the summer just further supports that for folks who were stubbornly in disbelief. I think he is questionable as a developer of talent and a flat out awful coach. But, he is a very good salesman.

2. Ham is a loss, but only because we are thin at LB with this class (with the combined loss of Eichenberg). From a quality perspective, I think we would've easily filled the spot with comparable talent if the decommit occurred August. In spite of him apprently pulling a Dillon Quinn at a 247 Camp, he only got a second Big 5 offer when Colorado's new staff is scrambling to fill its class and are flinging around offers.

3. Smith and Eichenberg are the losses. That said, BC is always going to have trouble holding onto an Ohio kid with an OSU offer and a Florida kid with an FSU offer (even if we were 10-2). But, there was talent there that is impossible to replace at this stage.

4. We still have some irons in the fire with Greico, Deberry, Carter and Pyne. Hopefully, some of these slide our way. I believe Carter will end up at LT when all said and done. So, not a perfect contingency to losing Smith (who was an interior lineman), but it would be something. If Greico can grow into a LB, he very well may be a better long term prospect than Ham.

5. I don't think we kept Daz to "save the class". But, if that was part of the thinking, I hope that losing 2 of our top 5 recruits will make folks aware of the folly.

Here is your contingency plan for losing Smith.

Credit the staff for having one. Don't know exactly why he verballed to Temple over impressive early interest:

Sounded like he never actually had a "committable" offer.

We're walking a tightrope closing out this class. Lose Mungin, gain DeBerry. Lose Smith, gain Donaldson. Lose Ham, gain Grieco.
Here's the problem... we haven't gotten confirmation of the additions, but have been assured of the losses.

Also... has anyone have any news on Pyne and Carter?

Real solid late pick-ups of DeBerry and Grieco. Disappointing we struck out on OLine (Pyne, Donaldson and Carter). Overall, it is still a very good class... but was even better with Eichenberg and Smith.

In news from ATL... tough day for HCRD. They lost their #1 Recruit to Bama (Jordan Battle) and their QB recruit to Georgia (Dwan Mathis). Eichenberg was their only flip.

Pyne ended up switching back to 2020 he’ll EE in that class. BC still heavily involved. Carter might not sign this signing period and wait until February that’s up in the air.

Taking a smaller class won't help you there, and still ranked ahead of pretty much all recent classes

Marvin Ham is waiting until 6pm tonight to sign presumably with Colorado.
Is he waiting in the hopes something better comes along?
Still don't get the allure of Colorado or the pac-12.

Colorado has been a head coach for a total of 5 games in the NFL and went 2-3. That’s the extent of his head coaching expertise.

Were they not the ones that hired the Georgia DC?
