Josh Heupel (Mizzou OC) just hired as the head coach at UCF. They also brought in Randy Shannon as the DC.

Tennessee has had multiple meetings with Mel Tucker (UGA DC), Kevin Steele (Auburn DC) and Tee Martin (USC OC).

I need a ruling on whether this counts as an accurate prediction.

HJS {l Wrote}:Taggart announced he's staying in Oregon. So, the FSU search goes continues..

HJS {l Wrote}:It should be noted that I think it was wildly premature to say that Willie Taggart was no longer in the running for the FSU gig. It seems that the interpretation came from the linked blog in response to a Taggart tweet. But, reading the tweet itself, I don't believe it says what the blog thinks it says.

Went back and looked at last year's Oregon coaching search.

According to this tweet from Finebaum, the short list was Dan Mullen, Willie Taggart, Matt Rhule and Jim McElwain.
https://twitter.com/finebaum/status/805882297165742080

Oregon Live seems to indicate that Rhule was offered the job and turned it down for Baylor (which I do not recall and seem absolutely crazy). Nonetheless, McElwain certainly is available if they want to revisit that.
http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.s ... rch_u.html

Based on their experience with a guy who otherwise spent his career in the Southeast, I would expect Oregon to look for someone that has more ties in the West (not saying they will hire him, but McElwain was raised in Montana and was a successful coach at Colorado State).

According to Pete Thamel, Chad Morris is getting the Arkansas job. Another source says that he is targeting Brent Venables to be his DC (they are close from days at Clemson). I can't see that happening. Venables is annually in the running for lower Power 5 jobs. Would be a step backwards to go to Arkansas (even if they make him the richest college coordinator).

Jeremy Pruitt (who is a crazy good DC at Bama) is also among those SEC coordinators getting a strong look from Vols.

Really amazing to me when you think about all the craziness associated with this year's massive carousel that the ACC was pretty much unscathed. Sure they had coaches use it at leverage (Narduzzi is about to sign a 7 year deal). And, obviously it lost Jimbo (though, Taggart has a chance to not only be great, but also long term fixture). Ultimately, it most speaks to the imsecurity of the SEC and its Saban problem.

Looks like Jeremy Pruitt is getting the Tennessee job. Though it's never over until it's over with that search. All that said, I can't imagine Vol freaks saw this as the outcome when they slandered Schiano.

Hiring a Saban DC is like the most boring outcome of Tennessee's serach. I was hoping it came down to "trying to hire Kennesaw St.'s coach out of FCS" territory.

The SEC East consists of Dan Mullen and 6 Defensive Coordinators... 3 of whom came from Saban's staff (Muschamp, Smart and Pruitt).

Tennessee just needed to hire a good coach, not a splash hire. They have plenty of talent to work with.

Sounds like Mario Cristobal is getting the Oregon job. Seems like a weird move for them. I know he was passed over by Rutgers TWICE. I think, if we fired Daz and hired Cristobal, most here would be disappointed.

It wasn't that he turned down an offer to be Miss State's head coach. In typical blog fashion, they greatly exaggerate the actual quote. I believe what Urban actually said was: "Coach Day had an opportunity to potentially be a head coach in the SEC but decided to stay at Ohio State.” That reads more like he turned down the chance to interview/be considered for the job

Might be in for another spin. While I'd be surprised if any college coaches get called up to the NFL, Zona just fired Dick "Michigan Man" Rodriguez for Weinstein-ing all over Tucson.
