Are you talking about the Dolphins or BC? With the money flying around college football right now, I think our only hope is hitting the lottery with a Matt Ryan. Also, how have we progressed in the landscape when we formerly ran a dude out of town after 3 straight 9 win seasons, yet we can’t an excuse to get rid of Daz? We’re moving backwards at an alarmig rate.

Moving backwards? This team ended a 12 game ACC losing streak on Oct 29, 2016.

the athletic had a big story on day, interesting aspect.

chip offered the oc job at oregon in '09 when day was the WR coach under spaz and he initially accepted it but he turned it down to stay near family

He isn’t bluffing; he has chosen family over his career in the past. In 2009, when Kelly was at Oregon and Ryan was at Boston College, Kelly offered Day the offensive coordinator job and Day accepted. But shortly thereafter, over cake at a family party in Manchester celebrating the new job and a grandfather’s birthday, Day realized he didn’t want to move his family to Eugene, didn’t want to move so far away from his New England roots. So he called Kelly and told him he had reconsidered and wasn’t coming. Kelly later hired Mark Helfrich

I don’t see it with Day. I think ATL is remarkably wrong if he thinks Day is going to win a national title at OSU. Meyer was only able to win one and here’s the thing with Meyer: he is such an unbridled scumbag that when he leaves town the college steps in and places restrictions on what the next guy is allowed to do. Happened at Utah, Happened at Florida and it apparently even happened at BGSU. Every program he left consequently fell off a cliff, with the exception of Utah, which benefited immensely from the implosion of the BYU football program, the disaster that befell Colorado and Utah’s invitation into the PAC 12.

My guess is Day will be like Earl Bruce—a good coach who will give you 10 wins a year, but without any realistic shot of ever winning a national title. He’ll be forced out in five years.

Well... it seems that if ATL is going to be correct in his National Championship prediction, it will be this year. Day inherited One of Meyer’s most talented rosters and paired it with the most heralded QB to come out of HS since Peyton. He’s got a Jags-like run all teed-up.

Michigan LB Coach Al Washington will accept a job with Michigan’s arch rival Ohio State.

While Jim Harbaugh is vacationing after a blowout bowl loss, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day just stole away one of Michigan’s best recruiters in his 1st day on the job.

Chess. Not checkers.

Will Harbaugh survive this year short of beating 0.0hio St? Don't know what his buyout is but assume it is a lot. For financial and PR (outside of the SEC) reasons it will be very difficult for schools to fire the head coach this year. They will probably need boosters to pay for the buyout if they want to get rid of him.
3rd down Donnie Brown is going to target Mass recruits no matter where he ends up and Mass has always sent kids to Mich (Laro, McMurtey, Collins... ) but Mich has never made Mass a recruiting priority they way they have with Brown.

Isn’t it just a handshake right now? I thought it was getting low and they were negotiating pre Covid. I think he could be out this year.

Michigan needs to recruit nationally if they want to keep up with tOSU. I’m sure Brown will keep recruiting MA, but I also wonder if he’ll retire after this. He’s pushing 70?

Harbaugh is not going anywhere. The job is his until he no longer wants it. Don Brown will leave Michigan before Harbaugh does. In the unlikely event Jim is relieved of his duties it will be painted as his choice or he will leave for the NFL again.

I have heard semi-credible rumors that Harbaugh was entertaining conversations with NFL Teams. Keep an eye on Indianapolis. They are 5-2, but their schedule has been pudding soft (and they somehow managed to lose to Jacksonville). They now have a 4 game stretch playing the Titans twice, Green Bay and Baltimore. If they come out of that 5-6, they are staring down the barrel of a sub-500 season for the second year in a row, which would be all she wrote for Frank Reich. Hadbaugh’s status as a former Colts QB and his personal connections with Irsay would make it a likely destination.

I do not think Harbaugh is anywhere near as revered. However, the parallel would be us hiring Flores after he brought the Dolphins to the Super Bowl... or maybe a BOB-like situation (where there is a BC connection and success in college and pros). Nonetheless, I agree with you. They were so certain that Harbaugh was the perfect response to Urban that they won't let go of it regardless of the results. In their mind, it is just a matter of time for HCRD to fall on his face without Urban's recruits and Big Blue rises again under the Michigan Man.

That said, as posted in the "Other games" thread... "Harbaugh is still respected there based on his time as a player and success with the 49ers. I actually think you could see a lot of college coaches make the jump this year. The coordinator pool in the NFL is littered with retreads who are unlikely to get 2nd/3rd chances. Saban, Riley, Dabo, Franklin, Shaw, Harbaugh, HCRD, Urban... they all are better than what’s sitting around the coordinator booth." To that point, I see Jim Harbaugh being a possibility for the Jets. Joe Douglas spent 15 years with the Ravens and likely has some relationship with John Harbaugh (that could be a link to Jim).

Speaking of Flores, and ignoring the QB issue, he's doing a hell of a job making the rest of that team a playoff team. Catch 22 with QB between the known erratic commodity and the completely unknown rookie who is probably more stable, but given how well he has transformed the rest of that team, he probably made the right choice.

I may end up being wrong about Harbaugh after Saturday's historic loss for Michigan (worst deficit at half time and home loss since like 1903) but still maintain that Don Brown will be unemployed at Michigan before Jim Harbaugh is. Some truly head-scratching play calling including a QB designed run on 3rd & 8 down 28 points in the second quarter.

Someone suggested the ISU head coach to replace Jim which is laugh out loud funny. Michigan will hire nothing short of a sure thing if they get rid of Harbaugh. A friend in Detroit told me sports talk radio is saying Michigan will throw any money he wants at Urban Meyer not to even coach but just to help them find the right guy.
