BCEagles25 {l Wrote}:I think for all of Steve Adazzio's in-game deficiencies (pick one, I don't give a shit) his offensive system can really work in today's game of finesse and spacing because nobody outside of FSU/Miami/Clemson has the personnel to defend a physical ground and pound game. You need a lot of large defensive linemen to be able to eat those lanes, especially considering we roster blocking tight ends and will routinely have extra linemen/TE's in there. Very few teams have that, they have smaller pass-rushers or edge rushers that absolutely are obselete against a large line. It really is a nice counter to the modern game. That being said, what we need in order for it to work is a good, physically dominant line... a decent QB that will make you respect the run game (a guy like Murphy or ABrown will do), and a defense to make sure we don't have to play down two scores.

This is a pretty stupid take. Essentially: "if we're good enough, only good teams will have the talent to beat us."

Power running is not a schematic advantage that people aren't recruiting for. It's just something that you can do well if you have the right people. Wisconsin and Arkansas both ran this offense this year: one of them failed miserably and it's not because they faced such a talented group of opponents. Conversely, BC spent the last few years doing this poorly, despite the fact that only "FSU/Miami/Clemson have the personnel to defend" it.

I am obviously assuming it's a high-functioning version of the system. We didn't have that previously, now we are getting the right personnel in there and it has been functioning pretty well. Now, ACC teams are struggling to defend it because they don't have enough of the personnel necessary to defend a good version of the power rushing attack.

Doeren has added his name to the long list of coaches who have turned down Tennessee. Congrats RCC... he's all yours... for at least another 5 years.

Is Tennessee desperate enough to reach out to Art Briles?

I was thinking yes, they are.

I heard his former agent is the AD. Wonder if he was on a list at ESPN for cuts.

A lot of programs seem to be downgrading with their anticipated new coaching hires.

I would have liked Herm Edwards five years ago. Definitely a splash hire, but he has been out of the game for way too long and is getting old.

Don Brown would be a good choice for Tennessee. They recruit well and he can coach. They can get 5-7 years from Brown and build the program back to where they can attract a top coach.

@newyscruggs
Sources tell @NBCDFWSports that former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach is working on a deal to become the next coach at Tennessee. A deal could be announced Friday. I’m working on more details.

Thinking of Mike Leach, didn't Craig James accuse Leach of locking his son in a shed, or something when he was at TT? What ever happened to Craig James?
I know he lost a broadcast job and loves litigation. But he really simply disappeared. Maybe too toxic.

They could have done a lot worse. (like Dorean!)

It will be interesting to see if he can get something going quick enough to outlast the Serious Football Booster people who probably aren't that crazy about him.

Leach is the best coach they've looked at so far. Don't know what took so long for him to get involved. Hate that those crazies got a good result.

Agreed. He is a little crazy though and I'm not sure if it will work with Tennessee players who are typically more highly rated. I was watching a WSU game earlier this year and he made his offense start doing up-downs on the sideline because they had back to back three and outs.

Not so fast!

https://twitter.com/Brett_McMurphy/stat ... 1284911104

Sources: John Currie was prepared to hire Mike Leach but university officials wouldn’t allow him to do so. Phillip Fulmer has been sabotaging search process in hopes to become Tennessee’s AD

I’m bored and delayed on a runway. I’m sure many of you could do better

Glad that I’m not on ol' Rocky Top
Down in the Tennessee hills
Ain't no football coach on Rocky Top
And probably never will
Once I had some wins on Rocky Top
With a Payton who was half cat
His face was pink, he was dumb as soda pop
We still think we deserve that

Rocky Top, you'll always be
Full of entitlement and clearly crazy
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top, Tennessee
Rocky Top, Tennessee

Once Dozens of coaches applied to ol' Rocky Top
Lookin' for Some quick cash
Fans that live and breath on from Rocky Top
Are gonna be a pain in the ass

Success won't grow at all on Rocky Top
But no one accepts that by far
That's why all the coaches on Rocky Top
Will never sign another five star
