Phoenix is not a college hoops town the way Tucson is. Phoenix is a college football town. So no, 7-5 and 14 games over .500 isn't nearly good enough. Not even close. They don't expect ASU to win the Pac-12 South every year, but this mailing it in to USC each season is getting ridiculous. You need to at least challenge them every other year. That is not happening.

Sweet baby Jesus, let him do one of those announcements where he chooses a cap from the table.

Chip Kelly had a Gator hat and an Angry Chicken hat on the table. But, he stunned the crowd when his wife gave him a paper bag and he pulled out a UCLA hat and announced that he was "taking his talents to Tinsel Town."

What’s the appeal to UCLA as a football job?

Golly gee willikers....with all these plum jobs opening, someone has to come calling for the architect on one of the greatest season and program resurrections in NCAA football history, who did it all without a lick of talent....don't believe me....ask 'keeper.

Florida is hiring Mullen.

Schiano to Tennessee is a weird fit. I thought he would've done great at BC... not so sure at a school like Tennessee. A lot of Schiano's attraction for a school like BC is his building a program from scraps into something competitive. The idiot Vol fans will not be as patient. There is actually a lot of similarities between Schiano and Butch Jones. That's why I think this a very strange choice.

ASU is garbage and so will be their next coach.

Don’t think Schiano will do well in a place with unreasonable expectations.

ATLeagle {l Wrote}:UCLA has been sucky the past 15 years, but have a good football history. There is plenty of local talent so recruiting is not a grind. They just built new football facilities. Like Stanford they are great in nearly everything else besides football, so you know Athletics work. Unlike Stanford, you can sneak some borderline guys in because the school is so big (24K undergrad) one terrible SAT score won't impact anything. Great campus. Great neighborhood. Chip can coach an elite program put not be bothered by the media or when he goes out (that was always the part of the BC appeal to him). At an SEC school you are the ultimate big fish and are a prisoner to your own house and football facility.

Are you forgetting that Stanford offered Jameis Winston (who might be natively bright enough but hardly met Stanford's usual academic requirements)? I have the impression they bend the rules in Palo Alto if you have enough stars, just not so much as the factories. (I went to grad school at Stanford.)

Sumlin officially fired at TAMU. There are simply not enough quality coaches to match the glut of opportunities.

I predicted Leach, but A&M is kinda like a poor man's LSU. Speaking of LSU, surprised there isn't a whisper of Les Miles or Bob Stoops taking one of these trillion openings. Now that I mention it, Aggies could do a lot worse than Miles.

I think this is less about his time at Penn St and more about the fact that he’s not Gruden or whatever fantasy they had.

It's this.

But, it's still a weird hire given his lack of connection and similarity to Butch Jones. Here's hoping it falls apart and they are stuck with a Butch Jones coordinator.

So their AD has to be in some trash for this right? Can you allow him to make the hire after this?

I mean their ADs excuse is “I didn’t even know he was at Penn St” which is essentially saying that he didn’t even read all the way through his resume. Definitely have this guy in charge of your coaching search.
