He's different than Lowry because he was decent at a P5 level. I'm reasonably confident in Lazard, Baker and Lindstrom. They're all well above average. The rest of the crew makes me nervous. Monterio had some really good and some really bad games. Elijah Johnson was very good at guard but I doubt he'll be ready.

What I saw out of everyone else looked pretty bad (Schmal and Phillips in particular).

Did Philips play at all (non garbage time) last season?

They tried him along with a few others at guard I believe before Elijah Johnson was the solution. He also played in garbage time you are correct.

Cashman started the first 3 games at LG, E Johnson started the remainder. It seems like Phillips is ahead of the other two in that class. We really need to have a solid OL this season.

Who is the 5th starter on the OL early in practice?

I expect much of the standard fare this year. Starting defense (which looks to be about 25th best in the entire country, maybe even BETTER than that) will completely and totally annihilate the starting offense (which is at about 110th in the country) for the better part of camp. It will be three weeks into camp before Daz will even decide who the QB is because all the QBs will spend the whole camp running for their lives. He'll do press conferences saying he doesn't want the defense to take it easy on them even though they won't be able to figure exactly what they have on offense given how horrible they will perform against their team mates. And we will all sit here and pontificate about how good or bad each unit really is on its way to a 5-7 season.

some preseason articles, nothing ground breaking but nice to read about football again:

https://bostoncollege.rivals.com/news/f ... camp-opens

sully brings up a good point on RB depth, we'll see if the struggles last year were hilliman not getting back from injury or the OL, or the predictable play calling (it was probably all)

edit: according to thamel, dillon is 247 lbs

@PeteThamel
The buzz player at BC practice is 247-pound freshman TB AJ Dillon. Veteran TB Jon Hilliman also popped. New dad @HAROLDLANDRY2 still a star.

Is AJ Dillon still fast at 247 lbs? Hilliman put the weight on and looks slow

"We have 16 guys, which is good,"

This would have to include E Johnson (and Fish).

TOS reporting that Sharrieff Grice leaving the team due to concussion issues.

I think they started Bletzer at that spot in the spring game.

I thought Grice was 27 or 29?

He did.
26
We are very thin at LB.

the true Frosh LB's look too light (200 lbs) to step right into game action. They should convert Karafa back to LB and/or M Richardson will have to step up.

Former NFL player Mike Haynes was on the radio here in So Cal, and they asked how his son (Tate) was doing at camp. Said he "had made a few mental errors the first day, but was really excited to be there."

The good news is that Richardson can't block anyone in the back while playing on defense

For any of you who sat through that dreadful weather for the Spring Game this report lines up with what we saw.

You dont want Knoll doing KOs, FGs and punting so if someone emerged there it would help.

Bernard Lonergan wrote:
OL - Schmal has been playing inside. Phillips is first one in at either guard. Lindstrom will slide over to tackle and Palazolla backing up T as well. Not sure who has been getting backup reps at C.
WR - Kobay White and Jeff Smith are two best looking WRs. Callinan is vocal leader of group. Garrison is fully practicing and will be on two deep if he stays healthy.
QB - Brown getting more 1st team reps.
RB - Deep, deep group. Freshmen look very good and will play. Dillon is the best of the group, lots of talent there. Hopefully, he learns how to block out of the backfield. He is too fast for guys his size to tacle, and too big for other guys to tackle. When he breaks through first level and gets going downhill, DBs look scared to take him on.
TEs - Sweeney far and away best of group. Looks like a prototypical TE.
Overally, lots of quick tempo with multiple sets. RBs split out wide, TEs and WRs in the backfield... Looks very different on O. Will come down to OLine play and QB play but we are deep, fast, and looking good at other positions.

DL - Ray Smith will be in the middle, with Zach Allen (though he is outside at times) and Merritt third man in.
DEs - Wyatt Ray and Harold Landry might be best duo in a deep ACC. In fact, starting 4 D lineman might be better than '12-'13 TB Bucs.
Other projections look about right, no one really standing out too much. Yiadom and Lucas Dennis are best of the backfield.

D is usually so far ahead of the O at this point, but not looking that way this year. Not sure if that is good news (O has improved), bad news (D is dropping off this year) or, more likely, a bit of both. Fun time of year (undefeated season right now!).

Thanks.
Allen is playing DT?
How do Barlow & Morais look?
How about the 2 FR DTs?

I was curious about MS-G background so I looked up his BC stats.
Played three years at St Leo's university in Florida before transferring to BC for his senior season last year in which he was 8th last season in the ACC for goals scored.

To be fair to Daz, I feel that this team is on pretty solid footing talent-wise. I think we have ACC-level talent and depth at pretty much every position. He deserves credit for rehabilitating the roster. Of course, I fully expect him to mismanage the hell out of this thing. But, kudos for establishing a team that you can legitimately feel optimistic about.

Did Eagle in Atlanta hijack your user id and password? I'm still not convinced that Daz even knows who the QB will be.

I mean, if your idea of "solid footing" is a group of guys that will inevitably duke it out with Wake & Syracuse every year for the cellar in the Atlantic then...sure?

They have plenty of talent. HJS is right. People blaming talent are morons and making excuses. Not even Daz is doing that.
