Outside of his first full class, there have been very few recruiting battles we have won against other Power 5 programs. And, while we all know the program's issues, 3-outta-4 bowl games would normally be glossed over by outsiders. Don't know if the new breed of player isn't interested in his schtick or if he doesn't have good enough assistants. Either way, it ain't good.
Without doing an in depth look at all of the classes, I would say they have all been fairly comparable in regards to head-to-head recruiting (assume you mean P5 competiion). Just looking very quickly, the class that you mention had a smaller % of commits 12-13 out of 27 commits who had legit P5 offers. Just as a proxy, last year had 12 of 21 with P5 offers. Even 2016, which many would probably say was the worst so far, had 10/19 with P5 offers, again just doing a real quick look.
So far they've missed 2 guys they probably should have gotten based on location, but its also only March. Most of the classes start picking up around this time, at least they have traditionally. I dont think its panic time ye and I wouldn't be shocked if were looking at 3-4 commits by the end of the month.
