even though the bowl might be on 8 mile the day after Christmas, it is a fun experience for the players. Some may rather be home for Christmas, but to go to a bowl is some form of a reward for the hard work they put in and may ease a touch of the pain from the past two years.
The practices don't matter. I know every coach says that, but with this team, I don't think it matters. They have not improved at all during the season and that is with all the practices they have had. Wad and Brown have probably thrown 5,000 passes and seen multiple scenarios in practice. An extra 1,000 throws isn't going to help them. they can do that on their own. They need game reps. They need the pressure of being in a game and all that comes with it. Brown cant get that this year, but Wade needed it and didn't get enough of it. I get the sense that Dazz is married to Brown and didn't want Wade getting reps, possibly looking good, and making things awkward for next year. By the way, has anyone confirmed that Brown is any good? Practice reports, player accounts, anything?
this team needs to come back next year with some idea of how to have a functional offensive line. It is still a huge deficiency for a team that wants to run the ball all game.
This team needs to identify who the quarterback is, and what type of style they want to play. Wade looks like he is a pocket passer who can run a little bit. Is Brown the same?
This team needs to move on from hilliman who has now had two straight years, one injured, one not of well below average production.
this team needs to find two wide receivers who can play at an ACC level. I had hopes for Thadd Smith, but outside of last week, he hasn't had the opportunity to play. I think Jeff Smith can be a 5-10 play per game guy. For those who think he is an ACC level talent, please check his box score from ACC games this year. I don't want to hear bout how awesome Borgensen and Glines are. My uneducated guess is that if they are both confident of their abilities, then they may be looking for somewhere else to play next season.
They seem competent at tight end.
Their Dline has been good, and loses a little. they need to recruit about 2-3 big bodies for the future, but present day I think they are ok for next year.
Linebacker we are in good shape for next year.
I thought the defensive backfield was going to be the number one strength of the team this year. they were solid and young last year and never got beat deep. they have been awful as a unit this year. they have a lot of returnees, so whether it is scheme or talent, they need to figure it out.
And somehow, and I cant believe I am typing this, the kicking has been a net positive for this team. The field goal percentage and extra point percentage has been very very good. I don't think they have attempted a filed goal outside of 35 yards, but the swing from last year has been dramatic.
