Coughlin --> AD

Postby Tom Dooder on Sat Oct 22, 2016 7:41 pm

New London reporter and BC grad is hearing Coughlin may become AD. There actually is the potential this happens.

Even if you believe that he's the best coach BC's ever had in any sport, how would that qualify him to do the job of an AD? And before you say "he'd know who to bring in as football coach," remember that he would just hire Kevin fucking Gilbride.

My even better theory: Tom Coughlin replaces Bates as AD tomorrow. Fires Daz. Goes FULL BARRY ALVAREZ and serves as interim HC for remainder of season.

Good for fundraising but otherwise I am a little skeptical of how good he would be as an AD. Let's remember BC gives him nothing to work with.

Reasonable question - for the record, I think he'd be a good AD hire. I don't necessarily think he would be a good AD were you to place him randomly in any of a broad range of universities, but he has a deep understading and relationship with BC over several years in many different capacities. Everyone from BC who has interacted with him in any fashion have all positive things to say, particularly his former players, for whom he apparently will go to the moon (rocketship?).

Some other things to remember...

1. He turned the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars into an AFC championship team in two years. Yes, that was coaching, but he also handled a lot of the non-coaching administrative load. He has experience with building from nothing, disasters, messes, and by all accounts, has exceptional organizational skills.

B. He has a lot of fund-raising experience through his charity work, and has unique advantages at BC, being the face of one of our best stretches.

iii. The man has a different approach to risk than we have seen in the past several years. Most of our coaches and both our ADs do things that feel "safe" and "likely to keep their jobs". Of course this never works out - the low risk hire means there's extremely limited upside (the low risk hire probably isnt' going to win the ACC) and infinite downside (the low risk hire is a loser who can barely eke out 4 wins against a slate of ene more despicable losers). The year TC beat the Pats in the super bowl, remember the Jints and Pats played in the final game of the regular season, both teams in the playoffs, and TC went hell-for-leather in that final game trying to win.

Finally, he's been around coaching his entire life. You want to know what a good coach looks like, go meet a thousand coaches first, and then you can find a good one.

Obviously if he hires Kevin Gilbride, it'll be beer cans flying at flat screens again, but who knows? Watching our football games for the last few years has been like choosing to smell someone else's farts for three hours.

I listened to the game on the radio today while cleaning, organizing, and preparing my outdoors and hunting gear and even just listening was horrible. I don't want to think about what it must have been like to put eyes on that fiasco.

TC working for Bill Leahy, haha! This is a massive rebuilding project that is going to be grueling for the few fans left to watch. The end result of rebuilding will be 7-5, minor bowl games and increased parking fees!

This board is probably his source, or "spies" as all serious journalists describe their sources.

We should do a recruiting drive and get the other 10 BC fans here.

There are more people posting on that guy's Twitter than attended the game.
