How is there not a cap on his tenure or a re-election process. Is it a Jesuit thing ? I know Providence subject their president to re-election every 4-5 years. How can Leahy continue to keep this role with no evaluation ? Are the BOT just scared of him and don't want to give up their spots by rocking the boat ?

305 million was raised over the 10 year LTW campaign. That number included annual donations to the FF. BC spends 18 million per year on scholarships, that accounts for 180 million. The annual operating losses are 12 million per year, that accounts for the other 120 million. The university itself has invested little to no money in athletics.

Leahy serves as long as either he wants to or the BOT let him stay as president.

He doesn't care. He's paid (big bux) til 2020. Nothing can stop that. He got his new big contract and he is "coasting" into a comfortably wealthy retirement. F-ck everything else.

So (as far as he's concerned) you just be happy with him grabbing all the local Massachusetts high school two-stars that no other Big-Five school wants, with annual wins over ZooMass and Maine, and STFU about any of your criticisms of his game day coaching or recruiting. You have no power, no authority (none of you do) to change this hopeless situation. He's laughing at all of you all the way to the bank.

This is exactly right. He will not be fired. We are stuck with him the way your inner city middle school is stuck with a shitty teacher once they get tenure.

How do "we" Impact Leahy? And what's going to prevent them from hiring some other clueless President?

Bates won't fire him but I don't expect Bates to be around next year either so in that scenario all bets are off.

I agree that Not winning an ACC game would be fatal for Dazzler.
That said, with this schedule and some soft ACC teams, daziani would really have to outdo himself to not get at least five wins and go winless on conference.

How does this happen? What could Brad Bates possibly say to the BOT when they point blank ask him WHY, he approved the extension of a contract that now pays a former employee of Boston College (probably the highest paid employee of the school, I might add) $10 million dollars over the next 4 years to do a job he is no longer doing? How do you justify that and then keep your OWN job? The BOT had to FIRE the last athletic director (well, in reality just "retire" him) in order to fire an incompetent coach whose contract that retired AD, extended. And I think the school (just this year, maybe last year) just got done PAYING that incompetent coach his salary for doing the job that HE was no longer doing. We going to do this twice now?

Talk about... :titanic

Simple, Bates reports to Leahy, not the BOT. The BOT have nothing to do with the day to day running of the university and that includes hiring and firing coaches. The BOT has shown no interest in getting more involved with athletics.

The way to get to Leahy is through the media. If the globe can get a lot of donors to comment on the sorry state of BC athletics and an online petition calling for change is a good start. Also, I think calling out Leahy on social issues a lot like BYU getting bad media on their unpopular positions on social issues. Trap him and let the media crucify him and force the BOT to retire him.

Simple? If you say so. The Globe did get Cardinal Law "fired" (sort of) but really just demoted back to Rome. Of course there is a huge difference. Father Leahy didn't knowingly cover up some child molestation scandal at BC. You guys aren't Penn State.

I don't think its that simple Eaglekeeper. I mean maybe I don't know, and it IS that simple. It's possible. I have no connection to BC outside of my willingness to root for BC in football and in men's hoop. I socialize with members of the BC alumni association here in Phoenix. I spent 3 hours talking to Chase Rettig's dad and Alex Amidon's dad. And I've met :duchE in Vegas. That's it. That is my whole BC connection (and of course you guys, via the internet.) So I would think every single one of you guys would know far better than me what it would take to terminate Addazio. And I hope it happens, I'm DONE with him. I just don't think (this time, with this kind of extension and $$$$) it will be that simple. That is why I asked HJS (just a few days ago) when his contract is up, 2020 is a long way out into the future....

Anytime you get back there man and you want to hang out, I'm up for it. It's a much easier trip for me (distance and money) than it is for you. Maybe a poker tournament next time?

The simple part was referring to the hierarchy at BC as to who hires and fires the coaches. It's the president, not the BOT.

Getting Leahy out is difficult, but he will be 70 next spring. He will have to discuss with the BOT his future plans very soon. A few attack articles by the Globe could make retirement next spring very attractive to the BOT.

yes, but you don't want me involved, you want a cash manager. their accounting for the scholarships is correct. their linking the expense to a use of cash donations is the incorrect part

That's what I meant. I'm just wondering, after BC athletics pays BC for the $18 million, can BC give that money back to BC Athletics to pay for scholarships the next year?

Assuming that BC owns Alumni Stadium and Conte Forum, does BC Athletics pay Boston College rent to use them for practice and games?

Leahy as President of Boston College, is responsible for the performance of the athletic department and its teams. What percentage of this duty makes up his job description as president as a whole. 5%, maybe a little more? We are 100% sports fans. For the most part we don't care about the new dorms and the irish studies nonsense. What we want and what Leahy owes to the school as president are two entirely different obligations.

If an outside auditor came in and reviewed Leahy's job performance overall, including athletics, would he receive a favorable review. My guess is he would. BC just raised the 200 million, they have built more dorms, acquired more property, the academic reputation seems to be exactly where it has been for the past 20 years. If my assumptions are true, why should he retire, or why should he be forced out. Because 30 of us, know and realize he is largely responsible for running our Saturdays 12 times per year?

That North Dakota State coach -- about whom I know nothing other than that he wins -- is surely one of the most attractive prospects in the country. Leaving aside whether BC could get him, does anyone know whether he has disqualifications that would never let him be a fit for us?

Nothing wrong with the NDSU coach except that it seems he has never crossed to the eastern side of thevMississipoi in his life and thus probably can't recruit the northeast. At least that's what they'll tell us when he's disqualified as a candidate.
