Disappointed I won't see this one always enjoyed the trips down to Blacksburg

I did not enjoy my one trip to Blacksburg. Of course I blame most of that on the fact that it was the infamous 2005 game (#3 vs. #13 Thursday night game) and Quinton Porter started despite Matt Ryan having orchestrated one of the best comebacks ever against Wake Forest the week before. That was the peak of my TOB hatred.

That being said, other than watching their kinda gay Enter Sandman dance party before the 4th qtr, I didn't enjoy the scene all that much. Lots of hicks in a boring, remote town. It's very close to West Virginia.

There are some hicks who go to SEC games, but there are plenty of wine and cheese sorority/fraternity types that go to games at Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn, etc. The Virginia Tech atmosphere is closer to what I imagine a game would be like at West Virginia as opposed to Ole Miss...coming from somebody who's been to neither West Virginia nor Ole Miss...

I was at this game, too and my friend and I got pelted with food when we stood to cheer for a BC TD. This was in the lower level at the 40 yard line. To his credit, an older VT fan approached us after the game to apologize for the way we were treated. He also went on to tell us how much he liked TOB.

Virginia Tech is a mediocre university that has benefited from a migration of people to Virginia for jobs, with UVA being smaller and unable to accomodate mass admissions from the migration counties. Tech churns out unbelievable amounts of mediocre grads with extremely high-volume opinions of themselves and their school. It's like all the awful NY and Jersey residents who go to UMD because their state schools suck, at a much greater and more terrifying scale.

A proper SEC atmosphere has two extremes - hillbillies in trucks stained with dust and feral hog blood, halfwits barfing bourbon and roadside barbecue into empty beer pitchers, coupled with well-dressed southerners hanging chandeliers inside their tailgating tents. Tech averages these two together into a lukewarm offering of Applebees-lovin' hickish losers wearing clothes purchased at Bass Pro shops.

That place sucks. I went there once. Never again. If you want an SEC atmosphere, go to an SEC school (go to UGA, Auburn, Alabama, or LSU), don't go to SEC-lite tech. The closest thing to an SEC environment that I have seen in the ACC is Teh Clemson.
