I've seen BC play tennis before as I also played in college.

That sport should probably be the first one to cut. BC shouldn't be sponsoring sports that they're 0-47 in.

$180K is not going to make any kind of significant difference to the men's revenue sports.

That's what we spend on men's tennis.

http://college-sports.pointafter.com/l/6197/Boston-College-Tennis

To me, it's not about the money, but mental energy. We have limited resources in terms of people in and associated with the athletic department and we can't afford to devote any time and decision-making energy on these pointless sports.

Cut as many as possible outside of the major ones and Title IX requirements.

For one thing, you don't think having ~180k saved (if that # is true) from one sport to roll into something for football would help. That's the salary for multiple full time recruiting staff (or facility upgrades). If you save 180k per year from one sport and can redo the weight room, that's a plus. If you can redo locker rooms for BB or IH, that's a plus. It's also not about just cutting 1 sport, BC has to cut quite a few and that would have a material effect.

To the above point, wasn't it Hoff who said what a joke the athletics department was from a staff size perspective ? Again, it comes down to commitment. If BC is so hell bent on offerin so many sports because it fits with "Jesuit ideal" or whatever other excuse you want to use, that's fine, but commit. That means facilities (on campus or off campus arrangement), coaching staff, recruiting budget to get kids who can compete, etc. Its quite evident that stretching the athletic department so thin and trying to make it work on the cheap hasn't worked for a number of sports.

There's not enough members of the Athletic Department to support all these sports.

This site also states that the revenue is equal to the expenses, for both men's and women's tennis. You actually believe these numbers, then?

No. Those numbers are silly. Are there really more on the men's team?

180,000 is 1.8 million in ten years, that is enough to endow two scholarships and that is just tennis being cut. I still think BC should just develop the Hammond Pond Parkway site into a regional sports center with 2 hockey rinks, indoor playing fields, basketball courts, tennis center, aquatic center, etc. All varsity teams could make use of these facilities and the rest of the available hours can be rented to the public to pay for the construction and operating cost. Make this site a destination site for the top high school talent in all of our minor sports.

I understand it's difficult for the lawyers and those that hold law degrees but don't practice or just do house closings on this board to understand how to put together a real estate development. Sport specific centers have been built in eastern mass and they are huge financial successes. BC's location tops them all and these facilities are in high demand.

And I understand it's difficult to understand for a guy who got into pouring cement 140 years ago because he was into huffing the fumes, but when you spend months advocating for filling in the corners you lose all credibility on anything having to do with sports or real estate or message boardery.

And I'm not even a lawyer!

It took 15+ years to get a turf field with a roof on it (still haven't broke ground), but yea corners, knock yourself out with your regional sports complex

You might be surprised how many of us who came of age later than the nineteenth century have gotten degrees. Heck, even my butler's driver has one.

The value of a degree is fleeting, but cement lasts forever.

I've worked on different aspects of the development of a 1,000+ acre sports complex for much of the last 7 years. So, speaking from a position of experience and authority you've called for, you're a dipshit and should be quiet.

Why yes, all the documents we've drafted and negotiated ARE available to the public online. They're certainly not privileged, or littered with confidentiality provisions. Mind if I start sending you all my work? An extra pair of eyes never hurts!

Eaglekeeper {l Wrote}:Yes, the seats behind the visitors bench up 8 rows now go to the visiting teams fans. When most season ticket holders give up half their seats and those seats go unsold, DBS gutted the fan base. The losing has of course added to it, but BC had a strong following of long time season ticket holders who had all of those seats. How many people are going to donate $1,000 per seat plus the ticket cost for season tickets unless BC gets to Duke/UNC level? Not many if any is the answer.

Looks like the Republicans' Tax Bill (which is supposed to help the rich, but somehow still winds up crushing me and anyone from a high tax state... where most of the wealthy live) will be putting an end to the whole DBS scam (by taking away the deductibility of "donations" that are linked to seats).
