Sully just posted on EA that it's a done deal and to expect a presser Monday. His source was an unnamed BC coach.

Monday? That's plenty of time for Leahy to fuck this up.

With the Spring Game on Saturday, seems strange to postpone an announcement until Monday.

As I enjoy crushing people's hopes... 28 (who broke the news about Marty) claims that Leahy is requiring him to keep all coaches in place until after the conclusion of each respective season.

I had already resigned myself to this fact.

As luck would have it, the incoming Chairman of the BOT is very much one of those (when it comes to the HC anyway).

Who is the new incoming Chairman of the BOT???

Here is a recent podcast interview with Jarmond (though conducted by his agents).

From the OSUruption (hjs will like it):
http://www.landgrantholyland.com/2017/4 ... -ad-search

A key Ohio State athletics administrator is on the move.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel, Ohio State’s Martin Jarmond has been hired for the open Boston College athletic director job.

Jarmon is fairly young for a power conference AD top gig (just 37), but has a great reputation in the college administrator community, reportedly also getting long looks from Syracuse and Mississippi State. Among his many administrative and fundraising duties at Ohio State, Jarmond also handled the scheduling for Ohio State’s football team.

On that front, it’s clear he’s done a great job. The Buckeyes have future home and homes slated with major programs like TCU, Oregon, Notre Dame and Texas, along with interesting secondary games like Cincinnati and Oregon State. The Buckeyes have scheduled at a level that not only puts them in position to compete for playoff bids, but also often creates interesting football. That’s not always easy to do, even for mega-programs like Ohio State, and there’s no guarantee that skill can be as expertly replaced.

Athletic directors, of course, also hire coaches. And given his Ohio State ties, it wouldn’t be shocking if Jarmond decided to kick the tires on some Buckeye assistants if the Eagles need to move on from Steve Addazio after this season. An obvious potential target would be Greg Schiano, who was a successful head coach at Rutgers, and has tons of recruiting ties in the Northeast and Florida.

It’s not uncommon for Ohio State to schedule games with schools where former Buckeyes work as administrators. Non-conference football games with Hawaii and Florida Atlantic weren’t coincidences, after all. Interestingly enough, Ohio State already has a home and home with Boston College on a future schedule (2023, 2024). If Jarmond goes to BC, it will be interesting to see if the Eagles and Buckeyes schedule each other in other sports, like basketball or baseball.

Assistants under Urban Meyer are in high demand because the football world realizes what a great eye for talent he has. Gene Smith has a similar reputation in the world of athletic directors, and it only makes sense that another one of his deputies gets another great opportunity.

The search committee did a great job and gave Leahy a range of great choices. They stacked the deck so that it was impossible to make the wrong choice.

Maybe there's hope after all.

As much as we all talk about how impossible it is to be successful at BC, the reality is that (with all its considerable challenges) there are only 3 things that the BC AD actually has to do... (in order)...
1. Hire a good football coach
2. Hire a good basketball coach
3. Don't have a scandal blow up on your watch
That's it. Everything else will take care of itself (fund raising, ticket sales, media coverage, institutional support, etc.).

I like that this guy is putting his rep and career on the line. I like that he is supremely motivated to succeed (he does well at BC he can be making $2mm as the head of any major National program). I welcome the breath of fresh air. As I've said with regard to coaching searches... BC has a history of immediately limiting the pool of candidates by putting artificial restraints. This results in compromised choices. To be consistent, I should be supportive of an AD search that seems to have similarly removed such predetermined filters.

In sports, the new coach is very often the complete opposite of the previous one. TC to Henning to TOB to Jags to Spaz to Daz... each one couldn't have been more different than their predecessor. The same seems to hold true at the AD level Flynn to Chet to GDF to Bates to Jarmond. The only thing Bates and Gene had in common was that neither could pick a head coach for shit. Let's hope Marty will be able to break from that horrific tradition.

Greg Schiano has to be a frontrunner at this point. Question is whether he'd take it.

the young blood is what weve needed.

we havent taken a chance on someone who had incentive to work hard to move up the career chain since jags.

for spaz, heinz, bates, onahue and christian this was always going to be the final destination in the power five (except for when heinz & bates were going to go to michigan ool)

this could certainly not work, but weve definitely given sports the highest ceiling theyve had in 10 years today.
hey huerta if you readin this dont tell jimmy **** that i put xlax in teh chuck wagons...lol

This is the first hire in a while that I'm actually excited about. For so long the feeling has been "Well at least this guy isn't (insert guy he was hired to replace - Gene, Spaz, Onahue). This is genuinely exciting. He will be motivated to do well as it is his first chance to prove what he can do.
