BC's Football twitter account just posted this ...

BCFootballNews @BCFootballNews
Some pretty great news - An indoor facility is coming!

That seems a bit more concrete than "we will begin discussions about a field house"

You guys will find the negative in anything, it is awesome.

While I agree this won't be built tomorrow, they wouldn't be releasing it like this if they didn't know it was happening - both the cash and the approvals - even if they aren't yet all locked up.

I do think the location of the practice facility is telling. Not that there would be any better place, but Walsh seems to be the best guy to deal with.

I'm happy with the announcement. BC was left in the dust on facilities.

The lack of hard timing is still a concern though.

If I'm reading this correctly (and I think I am), this looks like the kickoff to the SOD 9: Winless, Schminless. If so, the tainted runoff will be to the upper lefthand corner of the picture.

I worry this is one of the department's bag o' tricks to delay reckoning for their failures. "Oh, we're going winless in ACC play in football AND basketball? Let's roll out those indoor field plans!"

Exactly. They can't just announce it's going to happen without the proper public hearings to take place so Eva et al. can get their shots in. This thing is all but done -- hopefully it will be ready by '17-'18 season

Press conference did happen....we just didn't get to see.

Quote from Sully on TOS

In the press conference with media at 1p.m., however, Bates implied that the IPF is a foregone conclusion. At this point, University Spokesman Jack Dunn stepped in and stated that BC will still have to go through the normal channels to get this passed. He mentioned that, in the original IMP, BC planned for undergraduate housing to be placed on the Shea Field site. Now, those plans will need to be reevaluated.

Also said construction is 8-12 months once approved. Hopefully this means fundraising is in fact all set. Over/under this is ready before the 2018 season?

I was going to ask this as well, does anyone have insight into the permitting process, and realistically how quickly something like this could break ground (my assumption is that the funds are all there) ?

My relative in the administration just explained to me that Menino and his permitting process was at the heart of the lack of progress in the past.

The financial crisis and St. Mary's project didn't help either.

But now the University seems confident it will be able to get things done quickly with Mayor Walsh.

the speed of which permits are obtained in any jurisdiction is always a function of how much money or favors you are willing to use.
