Who's going to Ireland?

Postby DrJackRyan on Thu Jan 21, 2016 12:25 pm

So who on this board is going to Ireland?

I was leaning towards it but wanted to see how my kids did flying (took them to Mexico last week) and also wanted to wait until the cheap Norwegian air flights from Boston to Cork got started.

My kids did fine, but the Boston to Cork flights have been indefinitely delayed. So have to look at Air Lingus or some other carrier.

Anyone else thinking of going?

Dublin might be the most overrated city in the world.

No chance I'm going. If I'm going to Ireland I'm playing golf

no - already had a june 2016 Ireland golf trip in the works.

that said - September is a great time of year weather wise for Ireland (usually). I agree that Dublin is nothing special, but if you go, bring your clubs and play portmarnock and the island club. the latter is really a treat.

One of the bunkers I was in at Portmarnock was so depressing it required a ladder to climb in and out of it. Great course

Are you kidding me?! Hell yeah! I'm so excited I'm going tonight, staking out the best seats!

No, but seriously, happen to be going tonight. Will let you know if the locals are any more interested in this game than TRE...

Any Galway recommendations, BTW?

Actually was switching hotels this morning to someplace that if I puke on the floor, it will just blend in.

Moran's on the Weir.

If you are out in Connemara you can pop in An Poitin Stil in Invern and hang out with my relatives. Brush up on your Gaeilge first: Dhá uiscí beatha, le do thoil

Agreed. The Island Club has some amazing holes. 13 and 14 on the water stood out. 14 had the narrowest fairway I've ever seen. Very unique, but I enjoyed it. Couldn't find any pictures but this short video has a good shot:

On the list of things I do not understand about people, the impulse to travel thousands of miles just to play golf is near the top. Hey, Paris has some great black top - anybody want to go over and just play pickup basketball for a few days?

I would like to go, but I am of the age where most of my expendable income is going towards weddings and bachelor parties.

Also, I have never been, but my mother has always talked about taking us on a family trip. The sentimentalist in me thinks that should be my first trip to the motherland, not a few days in Dublin to watch us lose a football game.

Galway is always a blast- the west coast is beautiful.

I did an internship in Dublin during the fall of 14 after graduating. The people overall are super friendly, there are lots of pubs, and any cow/lamb dish is delicious since there are so many animals on the island. It did rain a lot, and was pretty cold the whole time I was there (though early September was BEAUTIFUL). If you have an interest in Irish history, there's a lot to see in Dublin, and getting to the beautiful countryside with all the old castles is super easy on train or bus. Plus, Ryanair is based in Dublin so it's easy to get all over Europe cheaply. Overall, a great place to live in my opinion.

It doesn't work if you try to buy tickets on the GT side of the stadium.

Select either:
A) "best available" or
B) whatever price you want to pay, but only on the BC side
