This is complaining just to complain. It's 10 years away, you have no idea what either program will be. Name one of these "road trips" you reference that would move the needle and make up for an inferior opponent. Outside of the aforementioned Army (which I completely agree should be on the schedule more regularly), people aren't going to make a trip to see BC play Tulane simply because it's in a good location.

They won't play Army as long as Corrigan is the AD. He got stiffed out of the AD job when Bates got it so he has no desire to deal with BC. Ditto Navy with Chet the Jet as AD. BC played them both yearly back in the day and the West Point trip was a great weekend in the fall. Also, the BC alumni association used to run a trip to New Orleans in the 70's and 80's every time BC played Tulane. They used to get 1000+ people to go on those junkets. I think BC should be what they used to be and what Boise became...play anyone, anywhere, anytime so long as it is an uptick in scheduling and makes the program more visible.

That was the 70's. The local whalepants could travel much easier, it was a different demographic. I'm all for opponents in areas with large alum bases, however, to think that anyone would travel to New Orleans in 2016 to see BC play a school like Tulane, is just incorrect. When BC was good I personally travelled often to games, but even in a year like '07, I'm not flying specifically to NOLA to watch BC play an AAC bottom feeder.

Updated the master post to reflect the Rutgers home-and-home.

Personally, I'm disappointed. Both Penn State (no P5 scheduled) and Michigan (only 1 P5, usually plays 2) had openings in 2026 and 2027. With the recent scheduling of Stanford, Ohio State and even to a lesser extent Missouri on the schedule, I was hoping that BC had seen the need to schedule baby rapists. Penn State and Michigan just make too much sense. I was really hoping it could've been pulled off. Rutgers is a kick in the balls compared to the alternatives out there.

Can only hope that there's a sudden willingness to schedule two P5's in those years, but I doubt it...

the only question on rutgres if s whether we'll have fired the patron saint yet or not.

now in the street there is violence
and, and a lots of work to be done
no place to hang out our washing

Doesn't matter, they had their opportunities playing a couple 3-9 teams and they got beat by 3+ scores in both games. They are worse than BC, as hard as that might be for you to accept.

CNJKnight {l Wrote}:So a guaranteed win against a P5 team in back to back years with the ease of traveling to the game 2-4 hours away isn't a good idea? You do realize they still come in to NJ and recruit whether we play them or not, beat them or not.

If you agree with scheduling with large alumni bases, then it begs the question as to why they won't play more games in CA? They have 6 legitimate P5/G5 opponents available to get them on the schedule and allow the program exposure in an area that is a top 5 alumni location (over 14,000 alums are in CA), an area that is upticking on current students and a location where they actually recruit players (football, hoops and hockey). SD State, San Jose State, Cal, Stanford, UCLA and USC are legitimate programs in alumni population locations that would check all the boxes. They should be out in CA at least every 3 years playing one of these schools on a home/home basis. Right now, they only have Stanford in 12 years. Since the 80's they average west coast trips once every 14 years. There is no vision over there. I hope the new AD looks at the demographics of the alumni and pairs it up to OOC scheduling, especially when the location can actually benefit the program. Bear in mind when they played USC in LA a few years ago, they sold 6,000 tickets. People may not travel from Boston as they did in the 70's (and the school is more and more national in scope) but local alums show up when they play on the road.

West Coast is much more expensive to get to. It's not a huge recruiting territory. Pac12 schools don't want to come to the East Coast.

IDK, but there appears to be a fair amount of CA recruits on this list:

http://bostoncollege.247sports.com/Seas ... all/Offers

and if the thought truly is that it is too expensive to go there, then they are not a national program as they try to play up. And West Coast teams do travel to the east coast as the home/home BC has/had with USC and Stanford, USC v Syracuse, Stanford/Duke, UCLA/UVA show. You go to CA every coupe of years, you actually will get a number of these kids to commit...assuming the program and it's coach are reasonable, which is a whole other story.

bates does an excellent job finding d1 programs that are worse than us, there is some value to ass blasting rutgres as it's area we have done well and can do better in

BC recruits NJ probably more than any other state. Scheduling 1:1 with Rutgers just makes too much sense.

Edit: I still have 0 interest in Rutgers but from the program perspective it makes a world of sense.

Master post edited to reflect what is now a 4 game series with Rutgers.

2019: @ Rutgers
2020: Rutgers
2026: Rutgers
2027: @ Rutgers

Rutgers is clearly completely unexciting. The bright spot here is the continued willingness to schedule two P5's in the same year. We now have three seasons in the next decade with two P5's (2019 and 2022 with ND and Rutgers and 2024 with Ohio State and Missouri). That's a big step in the right direction, even if it is just Rutgers.

More so, I see scheduling Rutgers the same year as ND as a tacit declaration that Rutgers is essentially a G5 team. Is there really any difference between Rutgers, UConn, UMass and Temple, except that we get credit for the P5...
