When did clock management become obsolete?

Temple trails by 11, 4 minutes and running clock, huddles, breaks huddle, calls some signals, then break set, and look to sidelines for play call. Not once, but every down...using 6-12 extra seconds every snap. Now down to 2 and half minutes....huddle up, break, clock running, set, break set, look to sideline, then call time out as play clock runs down. Brilliance!!
