WLB Schwab (SR), J. Martin (SO)
LCB Yiadom (SR), McClary (SR)
SS Harris (JR), El Attrach (SO)
FS Torres (JR), ???
RCB Moore (SR), Denis (JR)

The defense is going to be so talented and deep this year. Should be awesome. Just need to have the corners spend every waking minute this offseason working on ball skills. Like actually learning how to turn, spot the ball, and at least attempt to mark a play on the actual ball.

On the other hand, another year of hoping the OL and QB position come together....

updating for Brown's year. also put Idrizi or Marten as the Backup TE based on usage at end of year last year.

any thoughts as to OL backups on the right side or DL, MLB, or FS backups, let me know.

With the addition of Jaleel Berry, by my count (not including Fish or McDonald) we have 86 scholarships on the roster.

McDonald was promised a scholarship and Berry just signed so there has to be a few guys already gone that we don't know about.

Not hearing of anyone leaving, other than Tucky, but there will be a lot of attrition before the 2018 class shows up on campus.

Sebastion now #29 on the roster but Ntantang on it as well. The late commit DT probably took his ship.
McClary is now #37.

according to the team roster he's now a grad student.

i think he has two years of eligibility left, but not sure how that works.

based on the practice reports and reading the tea leaves, any predictions for what the 2-deep will look like a couple weeks from now? Sebastian seems to get mentioned in every practice report, someone on the board mentioned Schmal was practicing with the starters, otherwise I think things stay more or less the same.

OL - Schmal has been playing inside. Phillips is first one in at either guard. Lindstrom will slide over to tackle and Palazolla backing up T as well. Not sure who has been getting backup reps at C.
WR - Kobay White and Jeff Smith are two best looking WRs. Callinan is vocal leader of group. Garrison is fully practicing and will be on two deep if he stays healthy.
QB - Brown getting more 1st team reps.
RB - Deep, deep group. Freshmen look very good and will play. Dillon is the best of the group, lots of talent there. Hopefully, he learns how to block out of the backfield. He is too fast for guys his size to tacle, and too big for other guys to tackle. When he breaks through first level and gets going downhill, DBs look scared to take him on.
TEs - Sweeney far and away best of group. Looks like a prototypical TE.
Overally, lots of quick tempo with multiple sets. RBs split out wide, TEs and WRs in the backfield... Looks very different on O. Will come down to OLine play and QB play but we are deep, fast, and looking good at other positions.

DL - Ray Smith will be in the middle, with Zach Allen (though he is outside at times) and Merritt third man in.
DEs - Wyatt Ray and Harold Landry might be best duo in a deep ACC. In fact, starting 4 D lineman might be better than '12-'13 TB Bucs.
Other projections look about right, no one really standing out too much. Yiadom and Lucas Dennis are best of the backfield.

D is usually so far ahead of the O at this point, but not looking that way this year. Not sure if that is good news (O has improved), bad news (D is dropping off this year) or, more likely, a bit of both. Fun time of year (undefeated season right now!).

I still expect Wade to be named started for Game 1. Jones is the 4th RB and will be used mostly on special teams. I also expect us to play 2 RB at times.

thought the same thing. we have 14 DB and 8 LB, give or take - i wonder if we're going to see a whole lot more nickel and dime packages this year and only 1-2 LB's on the field at a time.

It's interesting that people believe that Jones won't get offensive touches. On the one hand, that confirms the frosh are very good. On the other, Jones was better than Hilliman last season, so I hope it means that Hilliman is fully recovered.

Probably this, and also LB is one position that BC has seen freshman play well over the years. Maybe Theobald. I also like Richardson's game, not sure he is limited to backing up Strachan. But I agree, they are probably thinking more guys in coverage to force teams to run and to give the pass rushers time to get there when they don't.

Probably this, and also LB is one position that BC has seen freshman play well over the years. Maybe Theobald. I also like Richardson's game, not sure he is limited to backing up Strachan. But I agree, they are probably thinking more guys in coverage to force teams to run and to give the pass rushers time to get there when they don't.

i wonder which of the underclassmen is best fit to fill Milano's role. for the bowl game the depth chart was Milano, then Bletzer or Grice. with Grice and Milano gone, someone must be competing with Bletzer for the spot. maybe Martin moves over?

although the depth isn't good, we have a ton of leadership and experience with Strachan and Schwab.

That Milano position has been filled by guys that are really big safeties for a while now. KPL - Milano. They don't really have anyone on the roster right now other than Bletzer that fits that profile (other than Harris, who obviously is not moving).

good point - maybe El Attrach moves there? he's listed at 200 and hits hard from what i can remember. maybe Muse can fill that role as well - he's list at 195 and played LB and RB in HS.

EDIT - i went back and checked. Milano and Keyes were both listed in the 220s, and going back to Kevin Akins (who was the first type of that sort of blitzing second level guy), he weighed in the low 200s.

Lamot is listed at 235, Bletzer at 220, Miranda at 235. McDuffie and Theobald both at 200, so perhaps a bit too small currently.

Bletzer didn't look out of place this spring much to my dismay

Good call on Akins, I was thinking the same thing as I was reading down through the posts... he was an absolute animal and BC really struck gold using him in that role. He was terrific at getting to the QB on 3rd down and other obvious passing situations. We've been lucky to have to seen some tremendous defense the past 10-12 seasons.
