This is a pretty good article (only time you'll see me link to the NYT): http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/02/sport ... .html?_r=0

We should probably start a list considering all the jobs to keep up with...

Souther Cal - Clay Helton

Georgia - Kirby Smart
Missouri -
South Carolina -

Miami -
Syracuse -
Virginia -
VaTech - Justin Fuente

Illinois - Bill Cubit
Maryland -
Minnesota - Tracy Claeys
Rutgers -

Iowa State - Matt Campbell

UCF - Scott Frost
Memphis -

Serious question I'm pondering:

Is UGA firing Richt the same as BC firing Tobias?

Richt had a 74% winning percentage... despite playing their conference games in arguably the best conference out there. :toby could only dream of such success.

I think UGA made a mistake in Smart. Saban assistants have been a mixed bag. They could have hired a proven head coach but they've wanted Smart -- a UGA grad -- for a long time.

The problems Richt had were that he couldn't win the FAR weaker division of arguably the best conference out there consistently and he routinely got drilled by Florida (5-10 for Richt), all while sitting on an ungodly amount of in-state talent.

As for the TOB comparison, it's actually a fair one...

TOB was something of a poor man's Richt in that they both came into bad situations (BC's was much worse) and righted the ship quickly while preaching DISCIPLINE. The problems began when both routinely blew big games and suffered WTF losses while running infuriating offenses (Mike Bobo was their Dana Bible) and never got over the hump. In both cases the fans revolted and that was the beginning of the end. The only difference is that the Georgia admins don't have the same appetite for mediocrity that ours do so they pushed Richt out while BC was content to be on the periphery of relevance and would have kept TOB forever if he wanted.

kinda surprised richt took that job. he is very religious, and does lots of "mission work" and had heard he was going to focus on that......

i would also argue that richt did less with more then tob did at bc.

The faux religious bullshit is my favorite angle. #blessed

I remember when Richt was starting out. He was badd (the extra "d" is for "savings").

Didn't all of our transfers out mention this all being part of God's plan or something along those lines? BC being one of two Catholic universities playing high level college football wouldn't God want them to stay at BC and do well? :ace

UGA could be one of the top jobs in the country. Who else was available?

ACC Coastal Head Coaches:

Miami - Richt
VT - Fuente (with Foster retained as DC)
UVa - TBD
Pitt - Narduzzi
UNC - Fedora
Duke - Cutcliffe
GTech - Johnson

Richt should be a homerun for Miami. All these coaches pass the eye test (except for maybe Johnson). Maybe in a few years, just maybe, the Coastal will be more than the sacrificial lamb for Clemson and FSU every December.

DC lives matter.

Barry Odom promoted to Mizzou head coach.

For as many head coaching gigs that were open, the current hires outside of VT and maybe U have been underwhelming to say the least. It actually bodes well for hold outs like UVA and Cuse as they suddenly are looking good based on being one of the few programs still available.

That's a great hire. The ACC is acquitting themselves well this round.

Why can't we get coaches like this? I do know the answer. The deal is for five years and will pay Mendenhall $3.25 million a year and BC will never pay that.

Maybe Mendenhall wanted to go to a team that had a conference affiliation, or could it be about the money as Mendenhall apparently made $900K @ BYU. Yes, it's all about the money. Sizeable difference in salary and he would be foolish not to take the offer.

Well... at least Cuse seems to be ready to join BC and Wake in the cheap, MAC coach club. Dino Babers looks like the likely choice.

It should be noted, when we talk about how little BC pays, Tom Herman just re-signed... with Houston paying him $2.8mm per year.

I am pretty underwhelmed by all the coaching hires so far. Scott Frost at UCF may be the best so far. Clay Helton, while appearing shockingly safe on the surface, will I think turn out to be a very good hire for USC. Mark Richt would have been a great hire for Miami- three or four years ago. Until someone like Larry Fedora, Willie Taggart, Lincoln Riley or Cale Gundy get hired, I will remain underwhelmed. Most of the Defensive Coordinators just do not seem to work out as well unless if they have had head coaching experience (this was not the case 15 years ago, but seems to be the new normal). And that is just one of the reasons I think Kirby Smart will struggle to meet expectations.

More interesting to me are that there are good assistant coaching resumes now needing a job (hint hint Daz):

Brandon Blaney - former OL coach at Iowa State - wouldn't you prefer him over Frye?
James Coley - former OC at Miami w/ substantial South Fla recruiting ties- wouldn't you prefer him over Fitch?
Chris Beatty - former RB coach at Virginia w WR exp-- isn't he better than White?
Dave Nichol - former OC at East Carolina w tremendous Spread experience - isn't he better than almost anyone on our offensive staff?

Schiano and Rhule both told RU no. They have hired OSU DC... Chris Ash. They had him on their initial target list, but it seems like he was the only one from that list to return their calls.
