Harris injury?

Postby AdamBC on Sat Oct 31, 2009 9:23 pm

Watching the big screen from the other endzone, it looked like when Harris came off the field that he had a cut on his forehead and was bleeding. Did I mis-see a shadow or was there blood on his face after his last run of the game?

On tv, all I could see was Montel make a quick grab to his shoulder or neck when talking with the trainer. Any info. on this matter is pretty important since if Montel is hurt or worse out for a period then we are screwed big time. Where are the "insiders"? We need a status update.

I am not all too concerned. After coming out and being checked out he was giving fans high 5s and looked fine during the Alma Mater, didn't look like he was worried...

On Montel's last carry of the game, it looked like he landed on his back. To my untrained eye, the injury could have been some kind of bruise or perhaps he had the wind knocked out of him. Anyways, I don't think it was a big deal as he didn't go back to the training room after the medical staff evaluated him. Plus, a full week off will do him and the rest of the team a lot of good.

If our idiot coach didn't have Harris in an OOC Game that was completely meaningless in the grand scheme of things when we were up by 21 points in the 4th Quarter, this thread wouldn't have ever been created.

I was wondering if they were going for some stat paddng for him. He bested his yard total from last year with yesterday's game and got another 100-yard game. Though I think they used him for another series or two after that.

Warmups are part of the pre-game drills; being up by 21 with 8 minutes to go with the game in hand is a completely different scenario. Thanks for trying.

Stupid. I also thought they should pull Montel. Particularly after the Tebow concussion. FL was up by a ton at the time and there was no excuse to leave a key player in the game.

I didn't mind giving the first string one more drive. Yeah, we risked getting Montel hurt, but it was unlikely. Running back injuries often happen when a guy gets held up and hit by 2 or 3 tacklers, and Harris never seems to take those hard hits, thanks to his ability to spin and duck out of first contact.

And I can only imagine how we'd have been howling (I include myself here) if Spaz had pulled Harris at the end of the third only to see CMU score 7 or 10 quick points. Given the team's (i.e. coaching staff's) tendency to let opponents back into games, I don't mind seeing Harris, Shinskie et al. play as long as they did yesterday.

If we take out Montel what do we have. No Haden or Finch. Pretty sure Jet Smith wasn't going to play. Mcluskey? That isn't a legitimate threat. With the injuries and transfer of Haden we really aren't left with any backup option. It's a tough spot to be in. I don't like Harris being in there but I don't know what we do to replace him.

It was also a 28 or 21 point game at this point- I don't really see the need of us having a legitimate threat in with such little time left.

That's the point. Who cares, we were going to win the game anyway at that point. Shinskie could have turned around and taken a knee for all I care, just don't get our star RB hurt in a 21 point game mid-way through the 4th quarter.

I think the idea was to kill clock by running. Harris was able to get 10 yards in three or even two carries a series. You don't kill that much clock if you go three and out and punt it back.

I'm ok with leaving him in. Remember, we bitch when the staff takes the foot off the gas. They were trying to keep the game out of reach.

Montel should have been on the bench. Period.

He hurt is neck - snapped it back. Seemed pretty serious at first; not so bad after the game.

I'm pretty sure Harris got injured against NCS. I know he wasn't close to 100% against ND. If Haden was available, he probably would've gotten the lionshare of carries against the Irish. Which... (a) explains his poor performance against ND, but (b) begs the question as to why the FUCK were we running the ball so often (unsuccessfully).

He has a bunch of carries. He needs the bye week to get back to 100%. It doesn't look like anything too serious which is good because we are going to need him to round out ACC play.

It's also very possible he asked to stay in the game. These kids don't like sitting down.

Maybe so, but that is when a smart coach says to the 20 yo, enough for today. We have bigger fish to fry the next 3 games.
