Id love to hear what was said. The running play was a fine idea until you wasted the 10 seconds before it with the discussion and subsequent huddle. Not the play I would've called but whatever

On the radio last night, Daz said the debate was about whether or not they could run two plays in 29 seconds.

itd be nice if you gave your inexperienced freshman playing the most important position on an inexperienced offense more experience in practice by not splitting reps

Fitch and Daz must have been talking dinner plans, because the decision tree didn't change from any other time this season: first down = run up the middle.

Nothing like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Looking at this again, I think they already have this play minus the play fake, the bootleg and the WRs in passing patterns.

29 seconds is far more than enough time to run 3 passing plays and kick (miss) a FG on 4th down if you don't score on downs 1-3.

We know that Bates is only capable of asking Eddie Fogler to find him another MAC coach. So what MAC coaches should we be hoping for?

This shows how laughably out of touch our coaching staff is.

There are teams out there (including the one we're about to play), who could probably get off three plays in 29 seconds.

I'm not sure in terms of game coaching it's that much different...thankfully Daz can recruit and motivate at least.

There seems to be a lack of a killer instinct. Punting from the 33, not calling the timeout to end the half, just speaks to being risk averse. We're not good enough to hang with these teams so need to go for the throat when we can. 14-14 into the half is a way different game than 14-10.

Everyone's flipping out about punting from the 33. I realize that is pretty lame overall, but we did have 13 yards to go, and no chance of making a FG. I guess... this was the best option?

In the laundry list of dumb decisions last night that wasn't the dumbest but it wasn't smart

Go for it

Maybe one of the DBs sneezes on a receiver and the flag comes out

I guess I'm one of the few people here who didn't assume we had the game won before we got on the plane earlier this week, so I'm taking this a little better than most. But on offense, the things in order that got me pissed off were:

1) Not seeing any of the Murphy offense out there. Honestly, just one package, nothing major. But why not give Smith a chance to run
2) The whole clock management thing at the end of the half. It was less bad, but still pretty bad (btw, I think in Nororious Orange's dumb thread I called that as soon as we had expectations things like Daz's clock management skills were going to drive us nuts. I get a cookie).
3) No Flutie.
4) No short passes. We ran a bubble screen to Robinson in the 4th and I had one of this "oh neat. That looks like something we could pick up yards with. Where has that been?"
5) While punting didn't really drive me nuts, I think the 3rd down play call annoyed me because it wasn't a high percentage play, didn't help us pick up any yards, and seemed like we weren't treating it as 4 down territory. If they had chunked off 6 yards, say, then I would've wanted to see us go for it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my impression was we threw (or tried to throw) for the sticks on 3rd down.

That call was 3 years of not recruiting a kicker that can kick in the making. It was the proper call last night and no where near the dumbest thing to come out of the sarge last night

OH and I had highlighted your wish about getting a sketchy PI called because that was only happening on one side of the ball. We weren't getting that from the refs.

Agree. But of course, here we can get into recruiting vs. coaching debate because I feel like every kicker thats come in the past 3 years has been highly touted or something and regardless of who we put back there, we can't do shit.

I also think our kicking is bad beyond "bad college kicker bad" to the point there is some deficiency in how we work with our kickers.

bad kickers has permeated so many regimes that I guess you could be right. Maybe there's an ancient scroll they keep going to that continues to lead them astray or voldermort cast a curse on our kickers

What bothers me the most about the present state of the American football program at Boston College is that Adazzio will get a pass. He can use the easy excuses of being young and injuries to explain away the losses, and Bates and the whalepants (and plenty of people here) will buy it and say "better luck next year, coach!" The problem for Adazzio is that injuries heal and players get more experience, but, at his age, you just can't fix dumb. BC could field a team of all-world players, and the coaching staff would find some way of screwing it up, especially with less than two minutes left in a half. You can't blame youth or injuries for the clusterfuck at the end of the Wake game, and the end of the first half last night was almost as bad. THAT IS WHO HE IS, AND THAT IS WHAT HE WILL ALWAYS BE.

I think it's not so much losing this year, but its the way in which Daz reacted to our situation getting worse. The 3 weeks of bullshit with Flutie and Smith alternating is just inexcusable. Sure, it's a bad situation, but rather than make a decision and work with it, he just dicked around hoping one of the players would essentially make the decision for him. That is very much the reason we lost 2 games, and I'd entertain an argument that we could've been better prepared for last night if the decision was made on day 1 as well, though I wouldn't have called this game a sure thing.

The short, quick pass....a quick slant...a quick out...something to give a young QB a little to build on, maybe something that gives a defense who is loading the box something else to think about?....why not?
I guess because it doesn't fit the "keeping hitting the rock 'til it cracks" philosophy???
