Hadn't heard much about this until recently, but from what I've gathered, the university is far more at fault than the football program. The shoddy investigation, the sheer length of time it took them to kick it up to the DA, allowing him to continue to take classes on campus and forcing the girl to change her classes are all a REALLY bad look for a school that claims to be steeped in Baptist values. None of that is really about the football program however, though that's obviously where everyone wants to bring it back to because there are website clicks to be had and hours to be filled on TV and radio.
You can certainly make the argument that Briles and Co. shouldn't have allowed him to transfer in after issues at Truck Stop U, but that's typical social media hindsight since there was no readily available information (supposedly) at the time about what this animal did in Boise besides punching a window. The testimony in court by his ex-girlfriend makes it look like a REALLY bad decision by Briles and he'll certainly have to answer about what he knew and when, but the football program did everything more or less the way you'd want it to be done. They booted the kid off the team immediately, cut off all ties and let the process play out. Not sure how much more they could really do.
It's certainly a bad look for everybody involved, but at least this asshole will spend a good chunk of his life in prison and now the girl can hopefully move on with her life.
