2015 Preseason Prediction Thread

With the kids reporting and fall practice set to start tomorrow, it's high time for the 2nd Annual Preseason Prediction thread.

Just like last year, I'll be once again compiling preseason predictions and then posting updates throughout the year both before each week's game and then after each week's results for the sole purpose of facilitating gloating, shaming losers, and holding everyone accountable. As you may recall, in the 2014 Edition DavidGordon'sFoot walked away on top going 10-2 in preseason predictions, while ReverendMike was deemed the board loser (despite actually tying at 6-6 with myself and BCSUPERFAN22) for preseason predicting a 3-9 season with losses to everyone except Maine, UMass and CSU...and generally being a total dick of a killjoy along the way. It's actually kind of a little pain in the ass to do this every week and I'm only doing this because: a) I don't like doing work at the office on Monday mornings, 2) I like BC football, and iii).. So with that in mind, it'd be super awesome and would really be appreciate (i.e. fucking do it, douches) if anyone wishing to participate could copy-and-paste the following format into their submission.

50/50 games like VaTech, No. Ill, 'Cuse, ND, are the difference between a surprising Top-25 8-4, a middling 6-6, and a program-momentum-killing 4-8 year. Need to learn from last year's close losses, but this team has three dynamic backs, and when you can run, you will always have the opportunity to throw. So, this year depends on Darius Wade. Hilliman can be as good as he wants, he could easily run for 1,200 even with handoffs to Outlow and Willis. Rouse is underrated. We'll see how good the secondary is. Rant over.

It’s all about Wade – if he looks good this year (2500 passing yds, 20 tds), the future is bright. Regardless, Hilliman gets 1100 yards, Swigert is comeback player of the year and Landry/Strachan break out.

VaTech game could be the best chance this year of an upset of a ranked team (with FSU second). Herald over-reacts to BC finally winning a bowl game and writes cheese puff article on how they’ve finally “learned” how to win.

I actually would just like to point out that every year teams with 2 FCS games on the schedule appeal the NCAA for a waiver to play in a bowl with only 6 wins. NCST successfully petitioned the NCAA for this a few years ago. Usually I think these petitions go out in November, when there's a better sense of how many bowl teams vs. slots there are. With BC only scheduling the 2nd FCS game at the last minute due to a FBS game dropout, BC will DEFINITELY be appealing to be bowl eligible with only 6 wins. And I think there's a decent chance they would be granted it.

So just a hunch, and I know it flies in the face of popular opinion around here, but I would bet on 6 wins being enough for BC to get a bowl spot this year.

it kinda depends on how the rest of the acc does in filling their slots as well. i think that's the first potential bypass to the "only 4 wins against fbs teams" rule. after that, i think an interest from a bowl would also be helpful. without any interest from a bowl a petition is worthless.

i'm hoping it doesn't matter and we get to 7 wins... but my predictors keep coming back to 6-6.

W - Sep. 18 - FSU - BC with an effective passing attack playing off the run! Wade = MVP. Defense makes Golson look bad. Another USC-like marquee win. Fans getting amped. Winning the Atlantic seeps into the conversation around here.
W - Sep. 26 - N. Illinois - Daz's theme of closing and not letting opportunity slip away a la CSU pays off. Team pounds N.Illinois. Not even close.
W - Oct. 3 - @ Duke - Developing swagger. Duke's new QB can't find a receiver and BC's D just absolutely stuffs the run. Defensive grind, but a win.
W - Oct. 10 - Wake Forest - BC is just all around better than Wake Forest. But this game is scary close due to the grind and fatigue. Start feeling the need for a bye.
L - Oct. 17 - @ Clemson - Close for a half, but the lack of depth starts hurting BC, who starts getting beat on the lines. Wade's first true ACC road game is borderline-traumatic.
W - Oct. 24 - @ Louisville - Sgt. Slaughter rallies the lines and the defense causes nightmares for Louisville's rookie QB. This time it's BC forcing the INT's and walking away with an easy one.
L - Oct. 31 - VaTech - I don't think VT is going to be great this year, let alone even better than BC, but this game is a defensive slop-fest and has all the makings of a letdown a la FSU in '07. A few turnovers/special teams play cost us a close one.
W - Nov. 7 - NCST - The Pack start 4-0 by feasting on cupcakes, but come dangerously close to dropping 4 straight against Wake the week before. Shaky confidence and BC anihilates them.
W - Nov. 21 - @* Notre Dame - The bye week is a blessing and BC's theme of "Finishing" kicks into high gear. BC runs away with it. Blow out at Fenway!
W - Nov. 28 - @ Syracuse - Tiebreakers over FSU and Lousville as well as only 1 division loss suddenly leave the Eagles with a trip to Charlotte on the line...and a fanbase very nervous to have to go to Syracuse to earn it. But we're treated to The Darius Wade show. Dominant end to the year.
L - Dec. 5 - ACCCG - GT - Great game with both teams showing more shiftiness and flash than the dull grind that will be predicted by the pundits, but we just come up short in a high pressure 4th quarter.
W - Russel Athletic Bowl vs. Texas - The media makes this a must win for Texas considering the "inferior ACC opponent." The team feeds off the bulletin board material and Daz gets a (big time) bowl win.

W - Sep. 5 - Maine - Slow start leads to a close game at halftime, but BC runs for 300+ yards in the end and wins going away. Maine hits BC with one trick play. This will look like the Villanova game a couple years ago.
W - Sep. 12 - Howard - Howard's band is good, their football team is not. Flutie and Rouse get significant PT.
L - Sep. 18 - FSU - Daz ends up regretting two cupcakes. FSU looks like they're moving in warp speed compared to a FCS Team. BC does cover on a late TD in a game that never feels close.
L - Sep. 26 - N. Illinois - Mobile and accurate QB dooms a still pretty meh secondary. EO goes into meltdown mode.
L - Oct. 3 - @ Duke - Really close, BC might win this game. This Duke team isn't the same team from last year. BC has a lot of success on the ground, but Duke scores a late TD to win. Daz's clock management skills come into question.
W - Oct. 10 - Wake Forest - Wofford plays well, but we're still better than Wake.
L - Oct. 17 - @ Clemson - DeShaun Watson + BC Secondary = Beatdown.
L - Oct. 24 - @ Louisville - See NIU game. Mobile QB plus their DE Fields exploit our weaknesses.
W - Oct. 31 - VaTech - Really ugly, but BC squeaks out a low scoring game. Beamer is a goner after this season. BC will use Ohio St's gameplan from when they hang 50+ on VT in Blacksburg to open the season. Ohio St is going to come out really angry.
W - Nov. 7 - NCST - Brissett doesn't enjoy Boston in November. BCs front seven overwhelms NCST and they still can't stop the run at all.
L - Nov. 21 - @ Notre Dame - Close for a while, but Zaire is too much in the second half.
W - Nov. 28 - @ Syracuse - Terrell Hunt is long gone by this game, two completely unmotivated teams play an uninspiring game.

6-6. BC gets a waiver, plays in the Military Bowl (or whatever that thing is in Annapolis) and beats a 7-5 Maryland team.

I actually don't think a ton of this depends on Wade. He'll be fine. If the OLine gels and the secondary improves they could steal NIU, Duke and ND. 7 wins would be a big time success, but this is the last year that I'll accept 7-6.

I think good Golson shows up for FSU, and best of luck beating Clemson or Louisville with a crazy young team on the road.
