Late night games make sense. Morning games are stupid.

Ha! Even when we play a "home" game in Ireland we get shafted with the start time!
The only good news here is that we will not have a Labor Day weekend home game in 2016.

Why the fuck would they play this game at 1230 local?!?

Night time local is early afternoon Eastern time. Christ.

because they're trying to make it as true of a home game as possible

Live sports in the morning do very well in the ratings compared to SportsCenter or other highlights shows. ESPN would love to have one morning game a week if they could. That is why you see more and more 11 AM starts each season. This will be a big push of all day games. It wouldn't surprise me if they have a midnight start for a west coast game.

This is exciting, but I'm just scratching my head about the start time. While the 7:30 a.m. start time kind of stinks on the east coast, think about the west. The game will be at 4:30 a.m. in the Pacific time zone. I can't see them getting good ratings for this broadcast at those times. It would seem to be a no-brainer to push this back so that it starts at 9:30 or 10 a.m eastern so that there are at least a few pople up on the west coast to watch too.

you mean like how they did the last game in ireland?

i don't get the fascination with playing ireland, never have

Considering we are sending such a big presence to Ireland it is really good that no one over there with access to weapons and with short tempers has a grudge against us...

Northern Ireland’s Public Prosecution Service has decided that veteran Republican Ivor Bell will be prosecuted for the 1972 IRA murder of mother of 10 Jean McConville.

Bell, 78, from Ramoan Gardens in West Belfast, was arrested in March of last year and charged with IRA affiliation and aiding and abetting in McConville’s abduction and murder.

The key piece of evidence against Bell is the interview he reportedly gave to the failed Boston College Oral History Project.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution has the GT perspective on the game and how it came about (shocked that Blog Boy didn't post this first):

http://georgiatech.blog.ajc.com/2015/06/04/6-questions-and-answers-about-tech-in-dublin/

1. How did the game come about?

From a couple different angles. The Gaelic Athletic Association in Ireland reportedly has had interest in making Dublin the “capital” of college football outside the U.S., similar to how the NFL has produced its “International Series” in London. GAA officials began talks with Boston College last year to play in the Croke Park Classic, which last season featured Central Florida and Penn State.

Stateside, the ACC and member schools have discussed internationally expanding the brand of the conference and member schools under an initiative that the league calls “ACC Worldwide.”

The GAA pulled out in April, asserting that the strength of the dollar against the Euro had made the game untenable. However, Irish American Events Ltd. stepped into negotiations and was able to come to an agreement with Boston College, moving the game from the GAA’s Croke Park to Aviva Stadium.

“We went from, four months ago, thinking it wasn’t going to happen to now, it’s going to happen in a really sound and solid way, and we’re really excited about it,” Tech athletic director Mike Bobinski said Thursday.

I hope the band is going so they have something new to tout during the halftime introduction at Alumni. Always laugh when they brag in the intro about having played in the Emerald Isle Classic (more than 25 years ago) and the Japan Bowl 30 years ago.

There's no chance I'm going to this, I'd rather do Clemson or FSU.

Having said that, this is a good deal for BC. We're probably going to be good next year, it's a chance to have a National TV game with no other games on, it gives Daz 6 months to prepare the guys for that stupid GT offense, and recruits will be into this.

Anytime BC gets a chance to play a national game like this they should grab it, the exposure is great. Also playing GT Game 1 is a perfect scenario for BC. That offense has a horrible track record in bowl games because when you have a month to prepare for it, it's pretty simple.
