2016 BC vs. GT in Ireland?

Postby dtwalrus on Tue Dec 23, 2014 11:06 am

Looks like we may be playing our home game against GT in the Croke Park Classic...

I only have second hand info, but I've also heard this is happening.

I would assume this means the return trip to N. Illinois would be pushed to 2017, and we'll be needing a home OOC opponent to make up for the lost home conference game. Would leave:
- Clemson
- Louisville
- Syracuse
- UMass
- Buffalo (maybe)
- and two other OOC home games to make 7.

Bates pulling this off seems complicated and likely explains the delayed commitment/announcement.

i hope the reported game is more accurate than the reported 5 national championships shared between the two teams

If we could still pull off 7 home games, I'm actually not so sure.

I could use a Dublin vacation...

I wonder why they chose GT, I wouldn't have put them high on the list of potential dance partners for a game in Baile Atha Cliath.

Croke Park is a pretty good venue for a game, I watched Cork vs. Donegal GAA playoff football game there in 2012.

I surprised though that they are playing there compared to the Soccer stadium, which would seem a better fit for us football.

oh and just to continue the anger if true:

you can sell me on ireland as a road game
you can sell me on ireland as a OOC home game

but why in the world are you giving up an IN CONFERENCE home game, much less against a good program?

this is so so stupid

For those of us who don't complain about almost everything, I think it's a solid excuse to go to Ireland and see BC play against a good team. Life is short. Have fun. As we saw this year, BC's home field advantage is not all that great (4 losses). And as for season ticket sales, it's going to suck no matter what - GT at home or not.

I'm assuming the people who are complaining about this are members of whatever Peewee Football team we use to inflate attendance through free tix.

Dumb. If we are to give up a home game it should only be to play a :skank in Fenway or Foxboro.

Is this part of the same deal to move the Beanpot to Belfast?

I'm assuming the people who are complaining about the people who are complaining donate significantly more than the people who are complaining.
