Addazio's contract extended through 2020

Boston College and head coach Steve Addazio have agreed to a new contract, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Addazio will imminently sign a deal with the school that extends his contact with 2020.

This development removes Addazio from the search for a new coach at the University of Michigan, where he was considered one of the prime candidates after San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh. Michigan didn’t make direct contact with Addazio, but a source said the school reached out to gauge his interest.

Boston College Director of Athletics Brad Bates announced today that the University has extended the contract of football coach Steve Addazio through the 2020 season.

"In just two years, Steve Addazio has done an amazing job with our football program," Bates said. "To lead a team to 14 wins and two consecutive bowl games during what was supposed to be a rebuilding process is a great accomplishment. Beyond winning, he has worked tirelessly to recruit top-notch student-athletes and develop lasting relationships with former players and the entire University community. He is one of the best motivators I've ever been around, and his enthusiasm is infectious. We are very fortunate to have him as our coach."

Good stuff. I know that when Spaz was extended it was under the guise of being able to provide stability on the recruiting trail: i.e., assure kids that the coach wasn't going anywhere. With Addazio, i think that's actually necessary (Spaz wasn't leaving by choice).

Anyhow, even if he isn't the one and sainted answer to all our football wishes yet, he's proven competent at the minimum and definitely deserves a shot to show us more as he brings his recruits in etc.

I don't think BC needed to extend Addazio right now, but he's breathed life back into this program, so I'll live with the extension. Barring criminal and/or compliance issues, I'm waiting another 2 years before reassessing Addazio. Next year will probably be a step backwards in the W/L columns, but he's earned my patience.

oh and re spaz...adaziani passes the eye test for competence at the bare minimum. spaz never did.
