makes sense. i feel like a school is always at a competitive disadvantage when the coach isn't under contract til the kid he's recruiting graduates.

oh and re spaz...adaziani passes the eye test for competence at the bare minimum. spaz never did.

stability is good. roundabout 2017 we can all bitch about how frustrating it is to only go 9-4 and never take a big step forward and how daz should go to daniel's island and change his name to scrush5.

How much money per year? Daz was at the bottom of ACC coaching salary.
I see no problem with giving him a raise after two years of better than expected results. After what he inherited, it was a minor miracle to win 7 games two years in a row.

Almost 4 years to the day and a world apart from Gene giving Spaz an extension.

Agreed. It's nice to see us reward a coach who was able to make it to back-2-back middling bowl games in his first two years at the helm.

I don't think BC needed to extend Addazio right now, but he's breathed life back into this program, so I'll live with the ext/ension. Barring criminal and/or compliance issues, I'm waiting another 2 years before reassessing Addazio. Next year will probably be a step backwards in the W/L columns, but he's earned my patience.

But you know the thing about Daz so far is that things have been pleasantly surprising. A step back next year?? Who knows? This year we went in after losing, what, 80 percent of last year's offense, and look what happened. I think it was a reasonable expectation that we would slide this year. The real litmus test of this program is we are all looking FORWARD!

in the nfl, you can have lame duck coaches and succeed because of the mercenary nature of the business.
in the ncaa, having a coach that only has 3/2/1 years left on his deal when players are signing 4-5 year contracts is a huge detriment to bringing in talent. players come for the program & coach, not the school. we all know that. how can you expect a player to commit when the player doesn't know if the coach(es) he's committing to will be there by his junior year

Agree with commave, unless your coach is on thin ice, which he certainly is not, you keep him locked up for more than 4 years at all times.

With respect to the recruiting classes, this is a very good class compared to the last 8 or so, but it lacks the top end instant impact guys, at least from what we can glean from a bunch of basement dwellers putting stars on tens of thousands of high school kids. It could use one or two guys like Outlow, Wade, Hilliman or Landry, but it is otherwise just like last year. It is also very heavy on the Oline, which is not one of the four positions (QB, RB, WR, DB) that the "talent evaluators" are actually at least mediocre at judging, out of necessity. That skews the class as a whole because no one knows what a 4 star high school offensive lineman looks like - doesn't translate.
