The DA did investigate Paterno and Paterno did comply with state law by reporting the incident to his superiors and he did get JS off his staff after the first incident. The DA was well aware of JS. The NCAA should not have gotten involved until all of the criminal trials concluded. Only a criminal investigation can get all of the facts in an unbiased, professional method. BC's point shaving was left to the FBI/US Attorney and players went to jail, but there were no sactions levied by the NCAA against BC. We might find out that the VP Schultz just completely mishandled the entire situation and might have withheld information from the DA. Paterno made a good scapegoat and distracted the public from looking at the officers of the corporation. If the victims can pin this on an officer of the corporation, the civil lawsuits will be huge due to PSU's deep pockets.

Can we get a recount on this guy's Asshat of the Year matchup? He's really making a late push here.

Joe knew. He knew Sandusky was still running an overnight camp for young boys on campus, and he looked the other way. And Penn State and the NCAA are cool with that because he won football games. And you have the gall to compare that to a gambling scandal? Fuck you with a cactus.

Both here make good points. Keeper's idea that a proper criminal investigation could have better gotten to the facts makes sense. It could have shed important light on some of the key questions: what did Paterno really know/what should he have known and how culpable was he therefore, as Mike focuses on, for Sandusky's being allowed to have ongoing contact with youths on the PSU campus? As to the comparison with the BC gambling scandal, the crimes might not be comparable, but that does not mean that the standards and methods of investigation should not be.

Dude, Sandusky raped kids in the fucking locker room, and this man who they call a hero KNEW about it and just stood by. Stop trying to defend him because he was an old guy who won football games, he put wins over the safety of children and the NCAA is honoring him for that. DISGUSTIAD.

Last I checked there was a proper criminal investigation. Sandusky is in SuperMax. To the extent that you are naive enough to think criminal investigations are any more thorough or unbiased than Louis Freeh milking $1,000/hr, then you got your wish. Paterno should burn the Puckett wing.

Only JS has been convicted. There are legal standards that must be followed in a criminal investigation, Louis Freeh was not following those standards. Nobody was under oath, cross examined, etc. PSU offered up Paterno, but protected all of their corporate officiers. If Paterno knew what his former employee was doing, there is no way that he was the only person. Why would he protect a former employee and risk criminal prosecution? Why would he force JS off his staff after the first incident that the DA investigated but did not bring charges if he was covering for JS rapes?

Sorry, but I'm not buying that Paterno was in control of all decesion making regarding JS and I don't buy into the theory that Paterno actually knew that JS was raping kids. VP Schultz knew, he must have informed the President and some Trustees all of whom were not Paterno fans. I think these idiots screwed up big time and PSU is on the hook financially.

As far as comparing it to the point shaving at BC, it was merely to point out that a proper investigation is the only hope at getting real facts.

Eaglekeeper has to be the spawn of IB, OJ, HomoJS, and Salzano. There's no other explanation for the drivel he posts.

Legal standards in criminal cases actually protect the defendants. Not having legal standards is more likely to get you to the truth, as you are not limited by tricky little things like evidence, and large portions of the bill of rights.
